Lady Chatterley's Lover에 나타난 여성주체형성
The purpose of this study is to assert that women's initiative to break away from the symbolic is restored to vitality in D. H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. Connie's vitality of breaking away from Wragby Hall of the symbolic is that, different from the fact that the body of men is subordinated to castration, the body of women becomes ‘Jouissance’ itself when women do not cast their body away into the men-centered system; Women's body has been naturally acknowledged as the area reproducing the value of the ruling class. D. H. Lawrence's vitality is the antonym of castration. Castration is related to sex. So Lawrence's vitality comes from sex. Lawrence considered sex as the origin of life. The absence of sex in Lawrence's thought is the same as that of life. In Lawrence, sex does not come out of cold mental living, but the body like a flame that ‘+ and -' meet and generate. Lawrence thought that under the existing system that represents the social system, women's body being the space of life is oppressed, exploited and dying. To bring the space of vitality to life and help women to be the master of their body is regarded as the only path to the salvation of human being in Lawrence. The concepts of feminism and women's initiative are possible in the base that an X as ‘Phallus' is not included but excluded according to the concepts of ‘Jacques Lacan's Symbolic Logic of Sexuation and Phallus'. Since this X of ‘Phallus' means ‘Penis' and also ‘nothing' in the system of the symbolic language, the feast of the body is possible through the exclusion of this X. Therefore, the introduction of ‘Lacan's Symbolic Logic of Sexuation and Phallus' is thought to be valid for the analysis of Lady Chatterley's Lover. In Lady Chatterley's Lover, Connie's escape from the symbolic is said to previously announce the birth of vitality. It also is Connie's initiative to escape from Wragby Hall. When Wragby Hall is compared to the symbolic and the wood to the real in the concept of Lacan, the place that Connie had arrived at last was her womb of the dark space which life begins to originate. Jouissance is the body itself.
