전래 동화에서의 성 역할에 관한 연구 = (A) Study on the Sex-Role Conceptions Reflected in Traditional Fairy Tales

국문 초록 (Abstract)

아동을 위한 문학으로 큰 몫을 차지하고 있는 동화는 창작 동화와 전래 동화로 구분된다. 아동들은 오랜 세월을 거치면서 전해 내려온 전래 동화를 보다 즐겨 읽고 있다. 그러나 일부 전래 동화는 그것이 반영하는 가치가 현대 사회와 맞지 않을 뿐더러 부정적인 부모-자녀 관계, 전형적인 남녀 역할이 문제로 지적되어 왔다. 이에 반해 기존의 동화에 관한 연구들은 가족관계를 분석함에 있어 부모의 양육태도만을 중심으로 연구할 뿐 아니라 남녀 성 역할에 대한 분석도 간단한 통계에 의한 실태 조사에 그치고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 아동이 즐겨 읽고 있는 전래 동화에 나타난 등장 인물의 성 역할 표현을 그에 관련된 이론을 적용하여 보다 구체적이고 집중적인 분석함을 목적으로 하고자 한다.
본 연구의 분석 대상으로 선정한 동화는 현재 우리 나라 아동들이 즐겨 읽고 있는 것으로 신데렐라. 콩쥐팥쥐. 백설공주. 인어공주. 해님 달님. 미운 오리새끼. 흥부와 놀부. 피노키오. 장화 홍련. 엄지공주 등이다.
등장 인물의 성 역할 표현 분석은 SMII를 수정 제작한 정방숙(1986)의 성 특성 전형 형용사 표를 기준으로 적용하여 분석하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 등장 인물의 성 역할 표현은
첫째, 인어공주와 피노키오를 제외한 전래 동화 모두 전형적인 성 역할로 표현되고 있었다. 즉 용모가 뛰어나지만 복종적이고 약한 여성과 자신감 있고 씩씩하며 논리적인 남성으로 그려지고 있다.
둘째, 동화 속의 남성이 전형적 성 역할로 묘사되거나 여성이 전형적 남성의 성 역할로 표현되었을 경우 모두 부정적인 모습으로 제시되고 있어 아동들에게 전형적 성 역할에서 벗어나면 부정적인 역할이 될 것이라는 편견을 갖게 할 수 있다.
현재와 같이 가정에서 부친 부재란 말이 나오고 있는 작금의 현실에서 바람직한 성 역할 수행을 하는 부모, 즉 남과 여의 모습을 그리는 바람직한 동화의 창작이 필요하다. 또한 이혼율 증가와 그에 따르는 계부모 가정이 늘어남에 따라 애정적 양육태도와 개성 지향형의 대화 형태를 제시해야 할 것이다. 그리고 전래동화의 생성과 창작 시대가 남존여비의 전통적 성 역할 관을 가진 시대였음을 고려하여 전래 동화를 지도하는데 유의하며, 바람직한 양성성의 성 역할 모델을 제시할 수 있는 동화가 필요하다.

The fairy tales which are the major part in literature can be classified as creative ones and traditional ones. The children prefer to read traditional fairy tales which has been passed through long generation
But some of traditional fairy tales are said to have that are not suitable for modern society-negative parent-child relationship., stereo-typical man, woman's role
However the existing studies can fairy tales emphasize the attitude of mother's raising when conductions analysis of sex role of man and woman and also even the research on sex role of man and woman is limited to simple statistics. Therefore the purpose of this study is to give a concrete and intensive analysis on the sex role of man and woman which are represented in the fairy tales that children favor using relevant theories.

A modified Chung bang-suk(1986)'s tales of typical adjective for sex role characteristics was used as the criteria for the pattern analysis of sex role of characters of the tales
In the representation of sex role of characters in the fairy tales, firth, except for Little Mermaid and Pinocio, all other fairy tales represent the typical sex roles. In other words, beautiful and docile and petite woman and proud and brave and logical man are the typical sex role. Secondly, when man in fairy tales is described as the typical sex role of woman and woman in fairy tales is described as the typical sex role of man, they are described as negative models, thus it can give a biased opinion to children reader such as it is negative when traditional sex role is violated.
In the modern times when the term like absent father can e appropriate, it is necessary to create fairy tales in which the father does perform the desirable role. Due to increased divorce rate and the need for adoption of set-parent family, the positive role of step-mother has to be represented by describing sep-mother who has the loving attitude of raising and conversation pattern which is based on individualism. In addition, it is necessary to have fairy tales which represent desirable sex role for both sexes and to be cautions in teaching these traditional fairy tales since the years when these fairy tales were created are the time when the idea that man is superior to woman was prevalent.
