경제학분야 전문도서관의 정기간행물이용에 관한 연구 : 서울대학교 경제연구소 자료실을 대상으로 = (A) STUDY ON PERIODICALS USAGE IN THE SPECIAL LIBRARIES : THE CASE OF ECONOMIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE AT SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

국문 초록 (Abstract)

소수의 특정 목적을 가진 이용자가 찾는 전문도서관에 있어서 한정된 예산과 제한된 인력으로 폭발하는 정보의 양과 그 가격의 인상폭을 감당해야 되는 문제는 날로 심각해지고 있다. 특히 전문도서관 이용자는 즉각적이고 실질적이며 최신의 정보를 요구하므로 정기간행물에 대한 의존도가 상대적으로 높다. 따라서 부족한 예산 및 인력으로 필요한 정기간행물을 효과적으로 구독하기 위해서는 정기간행물의 이용실태를 조사하여 그 결과를 근거로 불필요한 것을 구독중지하는 한편 필요한 비구독 정기간행물은 새로 구독신청할 필요성이 대두되고 있다.
본 연구는 서울대학교 경제연구소 자료실을 조사대상기관으로 하여 영어로 된 정기간행물 이용실태를 조사분석함으로써 정기간행물 구독정지와 구독신청시 근거자료로 활용할 수 있는 기준을 만들어 보는데 목표를 두고 있다.
정기간행물 이용실태를 파악하기 위하여 인용분석, 이용빈도조사, 이용자 의견조사등 3가지 방법을 채택하였다. 조사결과를 활용하여 핵심잡지의 선정과 구독중지가 가능한 정기간행물과 구독신청을 요하는 정기간행물을 선정하였는데 그 과정 및 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
1. 세 가지 조사결과 인용빈도순 정기간행물 리스트, 이용빈도순 정기간행물 리스트, 답변빈도순에 따라 가중평균된 정기간행물 리스트를 만들었다.
2. 인용분석, 이용빈도조사 결과 적은 수의 정기간행물에 이용이 집중되어 있는 반면, 현재 구독중인 정기간행물 중에서 한번도 인용되지 않은 자료는 17종이고, 조사기간동안 한번도 이용되지 않은 것은 27종으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 1번이상 인용된 정기간행물 76종중 본 자료실에서 현재 구독하고 있지 않은 것이 37종으로 밝혀졌다.
3. 인용분석 결과 전체인용의 80%를 만족시키는 정기간행물 27종을 핵심잡지로 선정하였다. 27종의 핵심잡지와 경제학분야 선행연구의 결과들과 비교하여 볼때 많은 수의 정기간행물이 공통된 것으로 나타났다.
4. 인용분석과 이용빈도조사를 근거로 하여, 구독증지 검토대상 정기간행물 리스트를 작성하였다. 그리고 이용자 의견조사 결과 얻어진 가중평균치를 주요 변수로 하여 구독중지가 가능한 정기간행물로 10종을 결정하였다.
5. 연구원들이 구독신청한 정기간행물 50종 및 인용분석과 이용빈도조사결과를 근거로 하여 구독신청 검토대상 정기간행물 리스트를 작성하였다. 그리고 이용자 의견조사결과 얻어진 가중평균치를 주요 변수로 하여 33종을 구독신청을 요하는 정기간행물로 선정하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Special libraries used by small number of users are increasingly pressured by the problem of limited budget and manpower to effectively deal with ever increasing amount of information and escalating costs. The users of the special libraries tend to require most current information that are practical and relieable, therefore they rely more heavily on the periodicals than other forms of publications.
Therefore, to manage more efficient system of subscription on the periodicals with limited budget and manpower, a survey on the usage of periodicals should be conducted. Based on the survey, subscriptions on less frequently used periodicals can be cancelled while subscriptions on frequently used periodicals that are not already subscribed by the library can be added on.
The purpose of this study is to develop criteria used to cancel and sellect periodicals, by analyzing the results of a survey conducted on usage of English periodicals at the library of Economic Research Institute at Seoul National University. For this purpose, three method - citation analysis, use study and survey of users' opinion - were used. The results of this study can be summarized as follows:
1. As a result of analysis on periodical citation analysis ad use study, out of 56 periodicals subscribed by the library 17 titles were not cited and 26 titles were not used by anyone. Besides, out of 76 periodicals cited once or more 37 titles were not subscribed by the library.
2. Based on the analysis of periodical citation analysis. 27 titles are selected as core journal.
3. Based on the results of citation analysis and use study, a list of candidates for cancellation are made. Weighted results from the user survey were applied and finally 10 titles are proposed for cancellation.
4. Out of 50 titles requested by the research staff and the 37 titles which were cited in the theses and research papers. 33 titles were selected after comparing the weighted results obtained from the user survey.
