非武裝地帶(DMZ)의 平和指向型 觀光開發에 관한 硏究 = (A) Study on the Peace Oriented Tourism Development on the DMZ

Tourism forms up the sound international relations and peace of humankind, so it is called the passport to peace that makes human be coexisted peacefully. On the other hand, it is a kind of the offender of cultural destruction temporary or locally and it is regarded as a necessary evil that can destruct the public rule and order of a specific society and a specific region.
Recently the international views have understood that tourism is the vital force for peace and they have been cooperating in order to maximize the role of tourism for human race.
At the atmosphere of exchange and cooperation between south and north Korea that have been started with Keumgangsan mountain tour and UN interest, as well as world wide, on DMZ(demilitarized Zone) where has been recognized a barrier to block up the exchange of resources, finance, people and technology between south and north Korea as well as the symbol of the division of Korea into north and south.
This study started with consideration how we can overcome the division of Korea into South and North and how to manage prospective Korean nation in the future. It suggested that the ideas of DMZ peace tourism development are related to the peaceful unification, the prosperity of Korean nation, maximizing of economic values and conveying of national culture.
The goals of peace tourism development are 1. developing of the areas where human and nature can be coexisted peacefully, 2. developing of tourist areas for foundation of unified nation and unified Korea, 3. developing of the area where can overcome cultural division between south and north Korea, 4. developing the area where can give a chance to sympathize what the feeling of division is as a peace experience area and 5. developing of the tourist area where can contribute to progress of human welfare spontaneously.
This study suggested the strategies for developing peace tourism in DMZ as follows.
1. Strategy of tourism development in DMZ for preserving peace
- Introduction of experiencing Eco-tourism that could made human and nature live together
- Building the Korean nation cultural center or the experiencing hall of Korean culture
- Composing the international peace village or the world cultural art street seeking for peace of global village
2. Strategy of tourism development in DMZ for creating peace
- Building the international peace pavilion or the international peace conference hall that will play a role as a base for international peace making
- Establishing the international peace research institute or the international peace information foundation to play a role as a center of global peace research
- A plan of War memorial hall
3. Strategy of tourism development in DMZ for inducing the Image of peace
- Holding the global peace festival, a kind of peace Olympic, in oder to induce the peaceful image of Korean nation
- Developing of character products based on images from winners of Novel prize for peace who had peaceful mind
- Establishing the international peace prize depend on international peace and human rights on a world wide scale
4. Strategy of tourism development in DMZ for educating peace
- Developing the peace educating program that will grow peace keepers and building the education center
- By establishing cyber war experiencing hall and Experiencing hall of North Koreas life, the importance of peace will be risen up
This study is worthy of that it advanced the theory of DMZ peace tourism and could be a model for future studies. In addition to, it inspected DMZ potential power of tourism and possibility in advance, so it found problems in developing, preserving, using and managing of DMZ. According to the above research, it could suggested strategies of tourism development peacefully for creating peace, keeping peace, educating peace, inducing Image of peace.
