With 15 subjects (7 athletes and 8 non- athletes), the researcher tried to reveal the energy consumption and work intensity during the exercise of rope skipping (skipping on both feet and skipping with one foot changing after another), in the hope of Providing a fundamental reference for the improvement of national health as well as school curriculnm.
Method
The rope skipping exercise employed in this study consisted of two kinds. With one jump at one turning, each subject finished a 5-minute exercise at the frequence of 120 times a minute. Heart rate and oxygen uptake were measured each minute by attaching a face mask to every subject through the Douglas Bag Method. The test of maximum work load was done by way of treadmill.
Conclusion
1. In skipping on both feet, maximum oxygen intake and heart rate after the five -minute exercise were 2.62±0.16 l/min and 178.2±8.39 beats/min for the non-athletes, and 2.35±0.11 l/min and 144.1±6.39 beats/min for the athletes. In skipping with one foot changing after another, the non - athletes also revealed higher records (2.45±0.13 l/min, 169.3±5.23 beats/min) than the athletes (2.12±0.12 l/min, 136.2±5.27 beats/min).
2. As for the work intensity after the 5-minute exercise in skipping on both feet, %V˙O_(2)max recorded 81.62±4.24%(non-athletes) and 59.44±4.60%(athletes). The difference showed the superiority of the non-athletes by 22.18% (p<0.001).
3. As to the work intensity in skipping with one font changing after another, a higher record with the difference of 22.48%(p<0.001) was seen in the non-athletes : 75,60±5.29%(non-athletes), 53.12±4.50%(athletes).
4. The total of net energy consumption during the five-minute exercise for the non-athletes was 51.497±3.418 Cal/min (skipping on both feet) and 47.170Ca1/min (skipping with rotating feet), showed the significant difference of 4.307 Cal/min (p<0.05).
5. In athletes also, the record of energy consumption at the time of skipping on both feet (46.389±3.268 Cal/min) was higher than the net energy expenditure at skipping with rotating feet (39.674 Cal/min) by 6.715 Cal/min (p<0.001).
