    Many studies have been so far made on the six Groups(六部,) of Silla, since the knowledge of then is required for us to understand the dynasty's social organization in the three kingdoms period. However, little concern has been attended to the relationship between the six Groups and the Bone-Rank system (骨品制) in the middle ancient period in which, it is generally accepted, the systen had begun to be formed.
    The Bone-Rank System comprised two sub-systems, the bone system (骨制 ) and the six-rank system (頭品制). A few scholars have assumed that the six groups had relation with six-Rank system. Yet they have not presented any positive evidence for their assunotion. Nor have they :.lake any reference to relations between the six Groups and the Bone system.
    The author think that there was close correlationship between the Six Groups and the Bone-Rank System; while the former constituted a fundamental element for the social organization of the a royal capital, the latter represented a social order which had been applied to the residents in the capital alone. From such a point of view, this study attempts to clarity the relations between= the six Groups and the Bone-Rank system by examining the actual contents of a hier achical social order based on the system in each of the Groups
    The Conclusions drawn are as fallow;
    First, the six Groups of the middle Ancient period were six regional groups originated from the six SaRo-Chons.(斯盧六村) r ach group included pluaral families with different family names in a hierachical order. Also, the same family name did not always belor to the same group. On the other hand, the residents belonged to both the state and the group concerned a t the same time, and each group remained to be a political unit.
    Seconds, the royal family Kim belonged to the Saryang Group (沙梁部 ). After establishing a united rule with the Pak family of the Moryang Group (牟梁部 ), which was a queen family and the Kim family of the Yang Group (梁部) which pretented to be derived from king Namal(奈勿王), the Kim family of the Saryang Group sought to expand the influence of the group by incorporating into it the conquered families including the Royal family of Kumkwan Kaya(金官加耶).
    Third, those families which participated in the regine of united rule-the Kim 'Family of the Saryang Group, the pak family of the Moryang, the Kim family of Yang, and the Kim family from Keum kwan kaya of the Saryang constituted the Bone Status. Of them, the royal family of the Saryang alone could have the title of the Sacred Bone (聖骨), while the others were entitled to the True Bone (眞骨). Aside from the Saryang, the Moryang, and the Yang, the three rest-the ponpi(本彼部), the Hangi (漢□部)"and the Supbi Group(習比部) had no family which belonged to the Bone Status.
    Fourth, each of the Six Groups had a hierachical structure of social order based on the Bone-Rank System and the most complete one was that of the Saryang Group which consisted of all of the two bones and six ranks as have been said above, while the yang and the Moryang lacked only the Sacred Done, the ` highest order, the other three groups had only six Ranks System.
