軍服飾의 記號學的 分析 : 舊韓末期 陸軍服을 中心으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 기호학 이론을 바탕으로 하여 복식의 領域중 유니폼의 하
나인 군복의 意味, 傳達 作用과 構造에 대해 分折 考察하여, 복식에서의
기호의 領域 區分과 意味를 體系化 하는데 目的을 두었다.
이 연구에서 기호학이론은 Ferdinand de Saussure의 構造主義 기호학
의 기본개념과 Roland Barthes의 記號體系 및 Charles. Sanders Peirce
의 記號 類型과 Chareles Morris의 記號體系를 위주로 하였다. 또한 복
식을 인간생활의 한 분야로서 文化의 중요한 요소로 보고, 文化記號論的
입장의 Umberto Eco의 이론을 參考하였다.
이러한 이론의 기본인 기호의 意味와 形式의 關係에 文化的 기호로서
服飾을 分折ㆍ對比하여 含蓄的 메시지인 視覺言語를 分析하여 이론 적용
의 합리성을 밝히는 것이 첫번째 目標이다.
두번째로 군복식이 制服으로서 가진 特性과 起源에 根據를 두어 설명
하고, 우리나라 陸軍服의 역사를 살펴봄으로써 그 역사적 배경을 살펴보
았다. 다음으로, 기호학의 주요 개념에 舊韓末의 군복식을 적용하여
langue와 parole, 外延과 內延, 系列體와 統合體로써 군복식의 體系와
構成에 대해 분석하고, 기호분류의 측면으로 意味作用과 군복이 가지는
記號의 특성을 커뮤니케이션의 메카니즘으로 考察하였다.
군복의 이러한 이론의 복식의 직접적인 적용방법은 韓明淑의 복식의
의미기능단위에 따른 복식구조 분석을 바탕으로 하였다.
본 논문의 연구범위는 우리나라 陸軍服중 舊韓末期의 군복식으로
1895년부터 1909년 사이에 착용된 군복식을 대상으로 文獻과 寫眞 자료
를 통해 分析을 하였다.
이러한 자료와 함께 본 연구는 우리나라 舊韓末의 軍服飾을 記號學
이론에 적용하여 그 記號的 의미체계를 분석하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻
을 수 있었다.
1. 軍服飾의 langue와 parole의 적용은 記號와 意味의 체계정립의 필
요성을 밝히는 것이라 할 수 있다. 舊韓末의 軍服飾은 陸軍服裝規制라는
制式 勅令으로 制式이 갖추어 졌으며, 이러한 칙령은 langue로 軍帽, 軍
服, 外套와 그에 해당하는 標識章과 디테일을 결합시키며, langue에 의
해 결합된 착용형태는 parole이 된다.
군복식은 지시적ㆍ함축적 의미인 langue의 측면이 강조된 복식이다.
그러나 각 나라마다 가지는 군복과 시대적인 군복의 구분과 軍隊內의 계
급구분을 象徵하는 記號가 되므로 그 의미를 분석해 낼 수 있다.
2. 軍服記號의 의미 분석에 外延/內延 체계는 그 의미설정을 명확히
해주는 것으로 군복식의 기호체계는 복식품목을 이루는 요서 그 자체가
記票가 되며 복식을 착용한 상태가 記意가 된다. 이를 더욱 심층 분석하
면 복식품목 그 자체를 이루는 物質的 構成要素와 각 요소의 意味機能이
각각 1차적 外延體系의 記票/記意가 되어 복식 자체로 군인의 역할을 지
시하는 것으로, 나아가 階級象徵의 意味單位가 된다.
각 시기마다 제각기 변화를 가지고 있지만 변화와 상관없이 늘 계급
을 구분하고자 하는 의도는 강하게 지니는 것을 볼 수 있다. 오히려 시
대가 흐름에 따라 (즉 군대의 융성과 더불어)계급의 구분은 더욱 세분화
되고 다양하게 制服으로 표현됨을 알 수 있다.
3.또한 군복은 군인의 역할을 지시하는 것 외에 군복식 품목 하나하나
의 요소들과 그 결합이 1단계 일본군제 영향기에서 4단계의 일본군제 영
향기의 역사적 상황적 맥락에 의해 파악되는 각 시대를 지시하는 記號,
象徵이 된다.
4. 系列體와 統合體는 체계적 분석력을 제공시키는 개념으로 군복식
의 복식품목요소는 系列體로 나타나며, 그 구성요소들의 집합은 統合體
인 것이다.
舊韓末의 군복식은 軍帽(禮帽와 常帽), 軍服(禮衣와 常衣), 外套로
구성되어 있으며, 군복은 또한 上衣, 下衣로 구분된다. 이에 각 품목에
알파벳 부호를 주어 군복식의 계열체를 표시할 수 있으며 이를
공식화 하면 禮衣는 CH /OC {CD(u¹/d¹)}가 되며,常衣는
EH /OC {ED(u²/d²)}이 된다.
즉 이 공식은 禮衣, 常衣를 갖추어 입은 統合體의 기호로 볼 수 있으며
군복식 記號는 각각 복식단위의 統合體로 이루어진 것임을 알 수 있다.
또한 內延的 記票들의 분류표를 만들어 공식화하면 1단계 일본군제
영향기는

이러한 공식으로 표현되며, 각각 시대마다 다른 공식을 갖게 된다.
이러한 統合體인 최종형태가 의미를 나타내는 것이며, 보는 사람은
그 형태를 보고 각각의 4단계의 군복식의 意味를 해석할 수 있다.
5 舊韓末 군복식에 있어 意味作用은 앞의 기호학 기본개념의 적용에
서 본 바와 같이 착용자(발신자)와 접촉하는 수신자는 군복자체를 직접적
이고 단순하게 하나의 Signal로서 지각하고 군인의 역할의미를 인지하
나. 계급과 兵科 구분의 다양한 標章과 修飾은 상황적 맥락 안에서 즉 사
회적ㆍ시대적ㆍ정치적ㆍ역사적인 배경과 함께 象徵的 意味를 가진다.
이상과 같이 기호학을 적용하여 舊韓末의 軍服飾을 意味分析하여 본
결과, 군복은 Sign으로서 Signal의 측면이 강조된 것으로 복식 자체가
Signal의 역할을 하는 것이며, 또한 계급과 국가와 시대적 구분을 象徵
할 수 있는 記號임을 糾明 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis, based on the semiotic theory, compared the meaning
of sign which is a grounding the military uniform of the category
of clothings as a cultural sign for formative relation, with and
analyzed its visual language, that is implied massage. I also
investigated the communication and structure of military uniform,
and aimed to systematize the classification and meaning of the sign
in general clothings.
As for the scope of study, I made the Army's uniforms during the
last period of Korean Empire from 1895 to 1909 as an object of my
thesis and analyzed their documents and photographs.
The results according to the aim and source are as follows:
1. The military uniform during the last period of Korean Empire
were equipped with by a Royal decree called the Army Dress Control.
Such a decree may be a langue, which combined the hat, clothing,
coat, appropriate mark and detail: its wearing formation could be a
parole. Military uniform is a style emphasized by a respect of
langue, the indicative and implied meaning, We could analyze the
meaning because the langue may be the uniform in each nation, and
mean a sign symbolizing the periodical division of the uniform and
the rank classification within military.
2. In the signifying system of military uniform, each element of
dress items becomes significant and dressed condition is a signifie.
When analyzed more profoundly, the physical components of the
elements and their signifying functions could become a first
denotative semiotic and signifying units of rank symbol which
represent the role of each soldier. The classification may.
therefore, show a more detailed and various aspect according to the
change of each stage below.
3. Not only could the military uniform be an indication of role
Play, but also its combination could be a sign or symbol which
represents each stage recognized by historical and conditional
context from first (1985-1897) to fourth stage (1907-1909)
4. The component of items represents its paradigm, and its
assembly syntagm. The military uniform during the last period of
Korean Empire consisted in hats (ceremonial and everyday), dresses
(ceremonial and everyday), arid coat, while the dresses consisted in
upper and down ones. I represented them as paradigms by giving
each item alphabet code. I formulated the
syntagmatic signs of ceremonial dress as EH/OC {CD (u¹ /d¹)} and
everyday dress as EH/OC {ED(u²/d²)}. When formulated by the
categorizing table of connotative significants, the clothing in each
stage may show different formulation, and for instance, the first
stage, influenced by Japanese military system, will be
expressed as EH (β¹+b+M³) [CD { u¹(β²+b+●^(5)+ α¹)/d¹(β¹ + b)}].
The final form of syntagm represents a meaning, and those who
see it could interpret the signification in each stage.
5. As for the signifying system of military uniform, the
receiver who contact with the sender can recognize directly anti
simply as a signal and aware the meaning of soldier's role, but
various marks and modifiers for dividing ranks and departments
could have a symbolic meaning within their conditional context,
that is with social, periodical, political and historical
backgrounds.
As a result of analyze of military uniform during-- by
semiotical application. I made clear that it has a role of signal
by underlying signal's aspect of sign, and it is a sign which could
symbolize the class, national and periodical distinction.
