The purpose of this paper is to show the formation and collapse of the enterprises in the end of Yi Dynasty. To analyze the formation I investigate how Korea commercial organization coped with the foreign capital radically inflowed in those days of the opening of port. It is well knowned that most of the countries brought up their early enterprises, under the protection of the government. But commercial organizations of our country, like Si jon, Kek ju, Yo^ gak, Bobusang not only were not protected under the government, but also were collapsed for the lack of ability to cope with the foreign capital.
The great part of all foreign firms since the opening of port was that of Japan. Japanese financial agencies, commercial firms, transportation companies extended their business into Korea, with mutual helping. Main busineses of Tai-ichi Bank, (1) loaning of commercial capital to Japanese traders (2) dealing of business about custom duties and having charge of government revenues and disbursement (3) purchasing of ingot gold (4) drawing of bank bill (5) consolidating of money, show that Japanese traders looked after their interests.
National capitalists who received a thrilling impetus from the foreign capital, hasted to establish enterprises. As the result of that, 8 racial banks were established, but they were poor in capital. And they lost their customers to Japanese banks. Korea enterprises with the purpose of general commerce and industrial output were established; unlimeted partnerships 3, jointstock company (limited partnerships) 4, joint-stock company 14 (total 21). But these newly borned enterprises were collapsed for the lack of capital, and business skill, and by the pressure of Japanese monopolistic capital.
We conclude from these observations that the formation of enterprises in the end of Yi Dynasty was not active because of inflow of foreign capital, and established enterprises were still in the early stage, but the establishment of racial enterprises by the national capital indicates epoch-making event in the history of business management of Korea.
