Against the backdrop of digital technology iteration and media convergence, modern narrative forms are undergoing a fundamental transformation from linear texts to dynamic interactive systems. While the global children's digital reading market is expanding rapidly, many current applications exhibit adult-oriented designs that neglect the specific psychological needs and cognitive characteristics of children. This design flaw prevents child readers from achieving a fully engaged Flow Experience. There remains a lack of systematic theoretical guidance on integrating structured traditional narrative models with dynamic digital interaction mechanisms. Therefore, this study aims to construct and verify the Immersive Interactive Narrative Framework (IINF) to resolve the contradiction between Narrative Coherence and user Agency, providing a scientific theoretical basis and evaluation standards for children's digital reading products.
Grounded in Propp's Morphology of the Folktale and Flow Theory, the IINF deconstructs complex interactive narrative systems into three core levels: the Narrative Layer, the Interaction Layer, and the Immersion Layer. In the Narrative Layer, Propp's 31 Narrative Functions are digitally reconstructed. Static textual descriptions are transformed into Interactive Narrative Nodes with immediate feedback. The research proposes a multi-thread topological structure combining macro-linearity with micro-fractals, which ensures the logical stability of the main storyline while offering expansive micro-exploratory space for users. Through this nodular processing, the narrative driving force shifts from character-driven to user-driven, establishing clear interaction goals and providing Flow Antecedents.
This study utilizes the classic interactive e-book series Wanderful Storybooks as the core case analysis. In the Interaction Layer, the research focuses on the dynamic Challenge-Skill Balance (CSB) mechanism. The system manages Cognitive Load for children of different levels through a dual-mode design: the 'Read to Me' mode providing strong Scaffolding and the 'Let Me Play' mode providing weak Scaffolding. Findings indicate that the system employs dynamic time-delay algorithms for timely Scaffolding intervention and adheres to a non-punitive feedback principle to eliminate trial-and-error anxiety. Furthermore, the synergy between the Living Text system and multimodal symbols transforms abstract text into coded feedback with explicit narrative meaning, maintaining the continuity of the Flow State.
In the Immersion Layer, the study demonstrates the synergistic reinforcement of Spatial Telepresence and Emotional Resonance. Synchronized multimodal sensory feedback constructs a realistic perception loop that shields external interference. Crucially, the exercise of user Agency triggers deep Parasocial Interaction (PSI), transforming physical operations into emotional responsibility for narrative characters. At the final Liquidation of Lack node, this resonance facilitates the deep internalization of core values. The conclusions indicate that the IINF successfully integrates narrative logic, interaction mechanisms, and psychological states. This research proves that digital technology can revitalize classical narrative theory, providing a solid empirical foundation for the Glocalization of cross-media narrative and the artistic management of children's digital content.
