This study investigates the effects of SNS tourism information characteristics on tourists’ destination attitude and behavioral intention, and
further examines the mediating role of destination attitude in this relationship. In the context of ongoing digital transformation, Social Networking Services (SNS) have become a vital source of information in tourists’ search and decision-making processes, significantly shaping their perceptions of destinations and subsequent behavioral intentions. This study focuses on two key dimensions of SNS tourism information
characteristics—reputation and recency—and empirically examines their influence on destination attitude and behavioral intention.
A structured questionnaire survey was conducted among individuals who had used SNS for tourism information within the past year. A total of 250 questionnaires were distributed, and 231 valid responses were used for the final analysis, yielding an effective response rate of 92.4%. The
collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0, including frequency analysis, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. In addition, the mediating effect was tested using the three-step regression procedure proposed by Baron and Kenny,
supplemented by the Sobel test to assess the significance of the indirect effect.
The results reveal that both reputation and recency significantly and positively influence destination attitude and behavioral intention. Notably,
recency demonstrates a stronger effect than reputation, suggesting that tourists place greater emphasis on the timeliness of information in their travel decision-making process. Furthermore, destination attitude is found to significantly affect behavioral intention and partially mediate the relationship between SNS tourism information characteristics and behavioral intention.
This study contributes to the literature by empirically validating reputation and recency as key attributes of SNS tourism information. By
clarifying the mediating mechanism of destination attitude, it extends the theoretical understanding of how SNS information shapes behavioral
intention. From a practical perspective, the findings offer useful implications for tourism organizations and destination managers in developing
effective SNS-based marketing strategies.
