The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a 6-week complex plyometric training program on anaerobic performance, including speed, agility, and power, and to examine positional differences among K-League U18 football players. Thirty-three K-League U18 football players were classified into defenders(DF, n=11), midfielders(MF, n=11), and forwards(FW, n=11). Measurements were conducted at pre-test, mid-test, and post-test, and the complex plyometric training program was performed twice per week for six weeks. The assumption of normality was verified using the Shapiro–Wilk test. Subsequently, a Two-way Mixed Repeated Measures ANOVA was conducted based on the collected data, and Tukey’s HSD post hoc test was performed to identify positional differences.
For speed performance (40-m sprint), significant improvements were observed over time, and a significant interaction effect between time and position was found. Significant differences were also observed among positions. As the interaction effect between time and position was significant, Tukey’s post hoc test was conducted. No significant positional differences were found at the pre-test; however, FW showed significantly faster performance than MF at the mid- and post-tests, whereas DF showed no significant positional differences at any measurement point.
For agility performance, significant improvements over time were observed in both the COD 45° and COD 90° tests, and significant interactions between time and position were found for both variables. In the COD 45° test, no significant positional differences were observed, and Tukey’s post hoc test revealed no significant differences among positions at any measurement point. In contrast, significant positional differences were observed in the COD 90° test. According to Tukey’s post hoc test, FW performed faster than MF at the pre-test, MF performed faster than DF at the mid-test, and MF performed faster than FW, while FW performed faster than DF at the post-test, indicating positional differences in performance across time.
For power performance, significant improvements over time were observed in both the countermovement jump (CMJ) and standing long jump tests, and significant interactions between time and position were found for both variables. In the CMJ test, significant positional differences were observed, and Tukey’s post hoc test revealed that FW and DF showed higher performance than MF at all measurement points. In contrast, no significant positional differences were observed in the standing long jump test, and Tukey’s post hoc test indicated no significant differences among positions at any measurement point.
This study confirmed that a 6-week complex plyometric training program is an effective training method for improving anaerobic performance, including speed, agility, and power. Furthermore, positional performance characteristics differed according to the type of performance and the angle of change of direction. In particular, FW and DF demonstrated superior performance in tasks requiring explosive force production, suggesting that MF may exhibit different patterns of performance expression and adaptation according to positional demands involving diverse movements and continuous activity.
