(Abstract)
This study examines smart rural spatial structure in Shandong Province through the
relationship among technology, function, and space. Three cases—Shouguang City,
Jinan’s Laiwu District, and Juye County in Heze City—were classified as
industry-driven, governance-integrated, and platform-based types. Comparative case
analysis and a questionnaire survey of 300 residents were conducted, followed by
frequency analysis, chi-square tests, mean comparison, and one-way ANOVA.
The results show three different spatial development paths. Shouguang strengthened
agricultural production and promoted the intensification of production spaces through
smart equipment and automated management. Laiwu District improved public-service
accessibility and connections among dispersed settlements through digital governance
and service integration. Juye County connected dispersed production, distribution, and
service resources through digital platforms, although its effects on employment and
the physical spatial environment remained limited.
Significant regional differences were found in employment promotion, residential
environment, accessibility, space utilization, public facilities, environmental
improvement, financial support, and institutional satisfaction. Overall, smart rural
spatial structure depends not only on technology, but also on its integration with
local industries, public services, governance systems, and settlement conditions.
Therefore, region-specific planning strategies are required.
