    본 연구는 비판적 리터러시 기반 영어 수업이 EFL 환경 초등 학습자의 응답의 질과 어휘 사용에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 초등 EFL 학습자 를 대상으로 실험집단과 통제집단을 구성하여 동일한 학습 자료와 수업 시수를 적 용하되, 실험집단에는 비판적 리터러시 기반 활동을 중심으로 수업을 실시하였다. 연구 자료는 사전·사후 어휘 검사 결과, 학생 산출물, 수업 중 상호작용 자료, 설 문 응답 및 연구자 관찰 기록을 통해 수집·분석되었다. 연구 결과, 두 집단 모두 어휘 점수가 향상을 보였으나, 실험집단이 통제집단에 비해 더 큰 향상을 나타냈다. 또한 학생들의 응답은 단순한 감상이나 피상적인 도 덕적 판단에서 벗어나 관점 전환과 근거 제시를 포함하는 보다 정교한 양상으로 변화하였다. 이와 함께 어휘 사용 측면에서도 학생들은 점차 비판적·평가적 어휘 를 활용하고, 이유를 설명하는 과정에서 보다 다양한 어휘를 사용하는 경향을 보 였다. 이러한 결과는 비판적 리터러시 기반 수업이 어휘 발달뿐만 아니라 학습자 의 적극적인 언어 사용과 응답의 질 향상에 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다. 나아가 본 연구는 다양한 표현 양식을 활용한 비판적 리터러시 기반 활동이 학습자의 참 여와 의미 구성 과정을 촉진하는 데 긍정적인 역할을 할 수 있음을 보여준다.
