Factors Associated with Person-Centered Care Among Nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Care Service Units of Small and Medium-sized Hospitals Jin-Kyoung Shim Advisor : Prof. Shin-Young Lee,Ph.D. Department of Nursing Graduate School of Chosun University Purpose : This study aimed to identify the factors influencing person-centered care among nurses working in comprehensive nursing care service wards in small and medium-sized hospitals, focusing on compassion competence, nursing professionalism, and nursing work environment. Methods : Participants were 158 nurses working in comprehensive nursing service wards at five small and medium-sized hospitals in G metropolitan city, South Korea. Data were collected using a structured self-report questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 30.0 program through descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results : Person-centered care showed significant positive correlations with compassion competence, nursing professionalism, and nursing work environment among nurses in comprehensive nursing care service units of small and medium-sized hospitals. The main factors associated with person-centered care were communication ability(β =.29, p=.008) and sensitivity(β=.37, p<.001), which are subdomains of compassion competence. Nursing professionalism and nursing work environment were not identified as significant associated factors. The regression model explained 67% of the variance in person-centered care. Conclusion : The findings indicate that communication ability and sensitivity, as subdomains of compassion competence, are key factors associated with person-centered care among nurses in comprehensive nursing care service units of small and medium-sized hospitals. Therefore, beyond simple knowledge-based education, multidimensional approaches that enhance nurses compassion competence, particularly communication ability and sensitivity, are required. Such efforts are expected to ultimately promote person-centered care and improve the quality of nursing care and patient outcomes.
