The purpose of this study was to translate the Measure of Stroke Environment(MOSE), developed by Babulal and Connor (2016), into Korean and to examine the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Measure of Stroke Environment (K-MOSE). Existing stroke assessment instruments have primarily focused on physical function, activities of daily living, and social participation; however, they have limitations in systematically evaluating environmental barriers and facilitators encountered in real-life settings. Therefore, this study translated the MOSE into Korean and investigated the psychometric properties of the Korean version (K-MOSE) in individuals with stroke in Korea.
The participants were 24 adults diagnosed with stroke who were recruited through convenience sampling and snowball sampling. The assessment instruments included the K-MOSE and the Paradise Korean Version–Western Aphasia Battery–Revised (PK-WAB-R). Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0. Internal consistency was examined using Cronbach’s alpha coefficients, while Pearson correlation analyses and Mann–Whitney U tests were conducted to evaluate validity.
The results were as follows. First, the overall internal consistency of the K-MOSE was excellent (Cronbach’s α = .933). The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for the subdomains were .866 for Receptivity, .811 for Physical Environment, and .879 for Communication Environment, indicating good internal consistency across all subdomains. Second, the time elapsed since stroke onset was not significantly correlated with any K-MOSE subdomain or the overall transformed score. In contrast, treatment duration showed a significant positive correlation only with the overall transformed score (r = .405, p 〈 .05). Third, significant positive correlations were found between the PK-WAB-R Aphasia Quotient (AQ) and the transformed scores for Receptivity (r = .493, p 〈 .05), Communication Environment (r = .696, p 〈 .001), and the overall score (r = .565, p 〈 .01), whereas no significant correlation was observed for the Physical Environment subdomain. In addition, participants without aphasia demonstrated significantly higher transformed scores than those with aphasia in the Receptivity, Communication Environment, and overall domains. Fourth, the descriptive statistics indicated that the mean overall transformed score of the K-MOSE was 58.60. Among the subdomains, the highest mean transformed score was observed for Communication Environment (65.10), followed by Receptivity (59.43) and Physical Environment (48.61), with the Physical Environment subdomain showing the lowest score.
These findings suggest that the K-MOSE is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing environmental barriers and facilitators experienced by individuals with stroke in Korea. By systematically evaluating environmental factors encountered in everyday life, the K-MOSE is expected to serve as a clinically useful assessment tool for developing rehabilitation plans and facilitating successful community reintegration after stroke.

(Korean version of the Measure of Stroke Environment; K-MOSE)의 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하는 데 있다.
