ChatGPT(OpenAI), Gemini(Google), Claude(Anthropic), Llama(Meta)와 같은 챗봇들이 출현하면서 일반 사용자들도 쉽게 접근할 수 있게 되었다.

Recently, artificial intelligence(AI) has advanced rapidly, and is playing an increasingly important role in the healthcare sector. AI broadly refers to the ability of computers or machines to exhibit or simulate intelligent behavior. The field has evolved from machine learning and deep learning to generative artificial intelligence. Generative AI utilizes large language models(LLMs) to enable natural language interaction with humans and generate customized content upon request. With the advent of chatbots such as ChatGPT(OpenAI), Gemini(Google), Claude(Anthropic), and Llama(Meta), AI has become highly accessible to the general public. Given the growing interest in its content generation capabilities, natural language interaction, and versatility, along with the increasing volume of related research, this study aims to analyze and comprehensively understand how generative AI is being applied within the field of occupational therapy. Following the scoping review framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, this study selected and analyzed a total of 13 studies related to generative AI in occupational therapy published between 2022 and 2025.
The analysis yielded the following results. First, five studies(38.5%) were published in 2024 and eight studies(61.5%) in 2025, indicating a clear upward trend in research activity. Second, thematic analysis showed that five studies(35.7%) focused on the effectiveness of generative AI, four(28.6%) on performance validation, perceptions of generative AI for three studies (21.4%) and two studies (14.3%) on comparisons between occupational therapists. Third, There were seven mixed methods studies(50.0%), six quantitiative studies(42.9%), one qualitative study(7.7%), while no systematic reviews were identified. Fourth, research subjects were categorized into generative AI, occupational therapy students, occupational therapists, and clients, with subjects counted multiple times where a study involved more than one category. Generative AI itself was the most frequent subject(7 cases, 46.7%), followed by occupational therapy students(5 cases, 33.3%), occupational therapists(2 cases, 13.3%), and clients(1 cases, 6.7%).
This study is significant in that it provides foundational data for future research by comprehensively analyzing current trends in the application of generative AI within the field of occupational therapy.
