This study examines popular music album covers as intermedial devices in which sound, image, lyrics, materiality, and production methods generate meaning through mutual reference. Based on Irina O. Rajewsky’s concept of “intermedial references,” the study classifies the relationship between album covers and music into sensory, structural, and semiotic reference. Through selected album cases and the researcher’s own works, it argues that album covers are not supplementary images, but complex media forms that shape how music is sensed, structured, and signified.
