This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of eyelash perming on physical visual field openness and facial-specific appearance satisfaction in middle-aged women experiencing pseudoptosis. A one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted on 10 women aged 50-65 years. Physical visual field openness was objectively evaluated by measuring the Marginal Reflex Distance 1 (MRD1), and subjective appearance satisfaction was assessed using the eye satisfaction module of the FACE-Q questionnaire.
Following the procedure, MRD1 measurements increased significantly (p 〈 .01), indicating an effective physical lift of the sagging upper eyelid and improved visual field openness. Additionally, FACE-Q scores demonstrated a highly significant improvement in aesthetic satisfaction compared to the pre-procedure baseline (p 〈 .001).
The findings suggest that eyelash perming can serve as a non-invasive and effective medical beauty intervention to temporarily mitigate visual obstruction and enhance psychological well-being in middle-aged women with pseudoptosis. However, strict adherence to practitioner safety guidelines is essential during chemical application, given the vulnerability of aging ocular and periocular tissues. As this study is limited by a small sample size and a lack of a control group, further longitudinal studies with larger populations are warranted to validate these clinical effects.
