This study investigated the attentional bias in individuals with contamination-related
obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms using the Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP)
paradigm. While previous studies have utilized Stroop and dot-probe tasks to explore
attentional biases in OCD, these tasks have limitations in capturing the temporal
dynamics of attentional allocation and disengagement. In this study, 105 participants
completed an RSVP task to examine the relationship between contamination-related OC
symptoms and attentional blink (AB) effects. Data were analyzed using Generalized
Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) to control for individual differences in cognitive
processing. The results demonstrated a typical AB effect across all participants; however,
contamination-related OC symptoms did not significantly moderate the emotional
attentional blink (EAB) effect. These findings suggest that the cognitive bias in
contamination-related OC symptoms may be associated with enhanced environmental
scanning mechanisms rather than deficits in attentional disengagement or inhibition. This
study contributes to the literature by refining the understanding of subtype-specific
cognitive biases in OCD through a more precise temporal analysis.
