This study empirically investigates the structural pathway through which digital transformation leads to economic performance in the medical and automotive manufacturing industries by applying the Dynamic Capability Theory.
To this end, a research model was established in which the stages of Sensing, Seizing, and Reconfiguring lead to performance, and was verified using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on data from 522 companies in the 2022 Korean Innovation Survey (KIS).
The analysis revealed a significant causal relationship in both industries, where the perception of new technologies leads to revenue growth through the utilization of government support and the adoption of digital transformation.
Specifically, the automotive industry exhibited a relatively stronger influence of government support in the early stages of innovation due to its SME-centered structure, whereas the medical industry demonstrated high efficiency in converting adopted technologies directly into sales growth.
Based on these findings, this study suggests that the government should formulate industry-tailored policies, focusing on direct support to strengthen fundamental capabilities for the automotive industry and on performance-oriented support, such as tax benefits, for the medical industry.
