The research aims to bridge the gap between professional design practice and public understanding of graphic trends by developing GDPEA (Graphic Design Principle and Elements of Art), a generative Ai-powered archival system that analyzes and contextualizes visual trends through established design principles.
The research focuses on Instagram as the primary platform where graphic design trends circulate, analyzing large datasets of images from curatorial graphic design accounts. The analytical framework operationalizes Graphic Design Principle and Elements of Art, differentiating between descriptive principles requiring contextual analysis and categorical attributes. To overcome the challenges associated with large-scale analysis, the research implements an AI model with predefined prompts to produce consistent data analysis. To expand from existing trend analysis methodologies, this research explores AI’s potential as an analytical tool, validating its capability to identify graphic design trends.
The research result will be presented as a publicly accessible webbased archive, which will transform AI outputs into an intuitive exploration experience through keyword filters, responsive galleries, and an analytic dashboard. Users navigate through a UI based on visual vocabulary, learning analytical frameworks through interactions with the archive. By distributing the complete system as open-source software, the research supports the development of visual literacy through an accessible, principle-based
