비행의 은유를 통한 신화적 상상과 초월적 욕망 표현 연구 = A Study on the Creation of Mythological Imagination and Transcendental Desire through the Metaphor of Flight

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 인간의 불완전함에서 비롯된 초월적 지향이 신화적 구조와 예술적 행위로 형상화된 방식을 탐구한다. 인간은 본래 결핍된 존재이며, 그러한 취약성은 스스로를 보호하고 정당화하기 위한 서사를 생산한다. 그 축적된 서사가 곧 신화이며, 예술은 그 언어를 물질과 행위로 전환하여 감각적으로 구현한다.

본 연구는 ‘비행(飛行)’이라는 은유를 통해 인간의 염원과 한계, 그리고 그것이 기술과 제도의 언어 속에서 어떻게 재해석되고 반복되는가를 살펴본다. ‘비행 욕망’은 완전함의 추구가 필연적 실패와 교차하는 지점에서 발생하기에, 그 반복의 과정에서 예술적 수행의 의미가 드러난다.

나는 사회적 신화와 개인 서사의 경계에서 파편화된 열망의 흔적을 복원하고자 했다. 작업에서 재료는 삶을 비유하는 물질로, 신체의 행위는 현실에서 배제된 층위를 드러내는 매개로 기능한다. 수집된 기록물들을 정서적 풍경으로 변환하는 과정은 인간의 욕망, 시스템, 취약성이 서로를 반영하며 순환하는 구조를 드러낸다. 예술은 그 속에서 신화적 상상력으로 소실된 감각을 회복하고 낭만을 통해 현실을 사유하게 한다.

이 논문은 인간의 불완전함이야말로 예술의 근원적인 힘임을 말한다. 오늘날의 사회는 완벽함과 효율로 인간을 소외하지만, 예술가는 상실을 스스로 구원하기 위해 세계와 관계 맺는 방식을 상상하며 나름의 신화를 만든다. 그렇기에 본인에게 있어 이 연구는 불가능 속에서도 다시 다음을 상상할 용기를 확인하는 과정으로서 의미가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis explores how the transcendental orientation arising from human imperfection is manifested through mythical structures and artistic practices. Humans are inherently deficient beings, and such vulnerability produces narratives to protect and justify the self. These accumulated narratives constitute myth, and art serves as the medium that transforms this language into material and action, giving it sensory form.

Through the metaphor of "flight," this study examines human aspirations and limitations, and how they are reinterpreted and repeated within the languages of technology and institutional systems. Because the "desire for flight" emerges at the intersection where the pursuit of perfection meets inevitable failure, the significance of artistic performance is revealed within this process of repetition.

Working at the boundary between social myths and personal narratives, I seek to restore the traces of fragmented aspirations. In my practice, materials serve as metaphors for life’s conditions, and bodily actions function as a medium to reveal the layers excluded from reality. The process of transforming collected archives into emotional landscapes unveils a cyclical structure in which human desire, systems, and vulnerability reflect one another. Within this cycle, art recovers lost sensations through mythopoetic imagination and prompts a contemplation of reality through the lens of romanticism.

This thesis asserts that human imperfection is the fundamental force behind art. While contemporary society alienates individuals
through demands for perfection and efficiency, the artist constructs their own myth by imagining ways to engage with the world to redeem their sense of loss. Thus, for the author, this study signifies a process of confirming the courage to imagine what lies ahead, even in the face of impossibility.
