The body is always in process. Even when my body appears still, countless cells are being generated and extinguished within it. Although this process cannot be fully perceived, bodily sensations disperse and reassemble, layering themselves inside the body. This study seeks to explore how such fluid bodily experiences can be presented in painting, and whether they might extend beyond mere representation to open possibilities for new relationships.
My aim is to set my own body in motion through my practice. Just as the breath I exhale becomes connected to the breath of others, I believe that the sensations I experience can emerge as visual outcomes that affect others. Since 2018, I have painted by tracing the trajectories of my body’s movements. Within the social norms and institutional pressures that have objectified the body, it has been crumpled and fragmented. Yet I found ways to express myself within these conditions, bringing perspectives of marginalization into the form of my work, dismantling and recombining the pieces to generate new existences. The body, naturally shifting, became like a sliding puzzle—an ever-changing entity with countless possible configurations. This interest has also led me toward the body’s intense internal responses, imagining invisible sensations within and expanding toward bodies of animals, plants, and nature.
Through this series of processes, my painting has come to resist fixed states. A single mass has fragmented, intermingled with other fragments, and through the texture and color of paint, the sensations of the body have been drawn out. These fragments, in relation with space, destabilize conventional and normative concepts of the body. The “open wounds” discovered between control and chance became mediators for communion beyond the human, connecting to ecology.
This research regards wounds and ruptures not as grounds for exclusion but as fissures where relations emerge. Through painting, it explores perception as a shifting existence and as a tactile, performative chain of relations. Looking back at my body layered across different temporal dimensions, I expect it to be recomposed as a sensory terrain, becoming yet another source of vitality.
