Ceria nanoparticles possess unique redox-switching properties that enable efficient scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ROS), but their biomedical use is limited by toxicity and poor biocompatibility. In this study, metabolized elastin-complexed ceria nanoparticles (mEl-Ce) were developed as bioinspired nanozymes with improved stability, biocompatibility, and catalytic efficiency. The metabolized elastin matrix facilitated in situ nucleation of ceria domain, forming ultrasmall and highly crystalline nanoparticles. mEl-Ce effectively mimicked superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, suppressed inflammation in macrophage models, and promoted endothelial tube formation. Furthermore, its strong affinity toward extracellular matrix proteins enhanced retention at lesion sites. These results demonstrate that mEl-Ce achieves synergistic antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenic effects, highlighting the potential of ceria nanoparticles complexed with metabolized biomacromolecules for inflammatory disease therapy.
