Construction specifications are key documents that guide construction activities and play a critical role in project success. However, because they are generated by manually collecting and merging content from large volumes of Korean Construction Specifications (KCS), the process is time-consuming and prone to errors. In addition, extensive numerical requirements, construction methods, and conditions impose a significant cognitive burden on users, limiting effective utilization in practice.
To address these limitations, this study proposes a comprehensive framework consisting of: a natural language processing–based approach for automated construction specification generation; a conflict clause classification model integrating Information Retrieval (IR) techniques and Large Language Models (LLMs); and an automated construction quality checklist generation and compliance checking system based on digitalized KCS clauses.
Experimental results indicate that the automatically generated construction specifications achieved a Levenshtein similarity score of 0.99 compared to manually generated documents, with qualitative assessment confirming high structural completeness. The conflict clause classification model achieved an nDCG@10 of 0.92, an F1-score of 0.88, and a BERTScore of 0.73. In addition, 435 clauses from 39 KCS documents in the bridge domain were digitalized to establish an automated construction quality checklist and compliance checking system.
Overall, the proposed framework improves the efficiency and accuracy of construction specification generation and enhances practical usability, providing a systematic foundation for construction quality management.
