This study was conducted to address the newly emerging issue of seat breakout in F-TYPE valves used in clean agent fire-suppression systems, caused by the introduction of new charging agents and increased charging pressures. Analysis of the mechanical interaction at the seat–oscillator interface revealed that seat breakout is not driven by a reduction in clamping force due to seat thermal expansion. Instead, the direct cause was identified as the condition in which, during discharge, the pressure transmitted through micro-leakage channels exceeds the oscillator’s clamping force.
To increase the clamping retention force, a total of 16 clamping conditions were evaluated through discharge testing at a charging pressure of 100 bar. The results showed that sufficient clamping force was secured at a clamping depth of 5.0 ㎜ and an angle of 6 ° or greater, under which no seat breakout occurred in any specimen.
Applying this optimized condition to prototype products, the valves successfully passed airtightness, hydrostatic pressure, discharge, and feasibility leak tests, and further maintained sealing performance and structural stability during repeated charge –discharge durability cycling.
5In overall, this study confirms that securing adequate clamping force is the decisive factor in preventing seat breakout and presents an optimal and practically applicable design guideline suitable for high-pressure charging environments.
