사순 abc 커트 방법을 응용한 한국형 단발 커트 작품 제작

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 사회에서 헤어스타일은 개인의 개성과 정체성을 표현하는 중요한 수단으로 자리 잡았으며, 특히 단발 커트는 세대와 유행을 초월해 꾸준히 사랑받아 왔다. 그러나 한국인의 모발은 서구인의 모발과 달리 굵고 직모 성향이 강하여, 서구 중심으로 개발된 기존 커트 기법을 그대로 적용하기에는 한계가 존재한다. 이러한 문제의식 속에서 본 연구는 사순(Sassoon) abc 커트 기법을 한국인의 두상과 모질 특성에 맞게 응용·재해석하여 단발 작품을 제작하고, 그 과정을 체계적으로 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다.
연구 방법으로는 미용 교육용 가발을 대상으로 사순(Sassoon)의 세 가지 기본 기법인 라인(Line), 그래주에이션(Graduation), 레이어(Layer)를 적용·변형하여 총 14개의 단발 작품을 제작하였다. 제작 과정은 블로킹, 베이스 커트, 질감 처리, 마무리 스타일링의 단계로 구분하여 기록하였으며, 완성된 작품은 전·측·후면에서 촬영 후 형태학적(구조와 균형), 미적(디자인과 이미지), 실용적(관리와 응용 가능성) 관점에서 분석하였다.
연구 결과, Sassoon 기법을 한국인의 모질·두상 조건에 맞게 변형했을 때 단발 커트의 완성도와 실용성이 높아짐을 확인하였다. 특히 원랭스와 그래주에이션의 혼합, 내부 레이어의 응용은 한국 여성에게 적합한 볼륨 조절과 이미지 연출에 효과적이었다.
본 연구는 Sassoon 기법을 단순히 모방하는 수준을 넘어 한국적 특성을 반영한 응용적 접근을 시도했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 그 결과는 미용 교육 현장에서 교보재로 활용 가능할 뿐 아니라 현업 디자이너가 고객 맞춤형 단발 커트를 설계하는 데 실질적인 기초 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

The Korean beauty industry has recently undergone a period of remarkable transformation, evolving from small, privately operated salons into a highly professionalized sector characterized by brand-oriented management and large-scale franchising.
This industrial shift—illustrated by the multi-billion-won acquisition of Juno Hair, one of Korea’s leading salon brands—demonstrates that hair design has moved beyond a personal craft to become an integrated cultural and economic enterprise.
Alongside this growth, the global expansion of K-beauty has strengthened Korea’s international competitiveness in hair design, positioning hairstyles as symbolic forms of self-expression and cultural identity rather than merely external transformations.
Consequently, the necessity for advanced, systematic technical education for hair designers has become increasingly prominent.
Among globally established haircut methodologies, the Vidal Sassoon abc cutting system—comprising Line, One-Length, Graduation, and Layer—has long been recognized as a foundational model of modern haircut education. Based on geometric and structural design principles, this approach treats haircutting as a form of architectural construction. However, existing systems are largely developed for Western hair types and skull shapes, and thus inadequately reflect the distinct characteristics of East Asian hair, which is typically thick, heavy, and straight.
This limitation highlights the urgent need for localized adaptation in haircut education.
This study aims to develop and analyze Korean-style bob haircut designs inspired by Sassoon’s abc principles, reflecting the morphological and aesthetic preferences of Korean clients. Fourteen haircut works—seven with fringe and seven without—were produced using professional educational wigs.
Each piece was created through structured stages including sectioning, base cutting, texture control (point cut, slicing, and debulking), and styling, and was analyzed through photographic and diagrammatic documentation. The results were evaluated in three dimensions: morphological (structure and balance), aesthetic (form and image), and practical (manageability and application).
This research contributes to bridging the gap between Western haircut systems and Korean morphology by providing empirical data and design frameworks for localized education. Furthermore, it offers a pedagogical resource for beauty schools and professional salons, supporting the advancement of Korean-style haircut design as both an educational model and a creative art form.
