Waxing, an increasingly important sector within the beauty industry, is recognized as a promising field with continuous growth and high market potential. However, despite its rapid market expansion, professional competency and customer service capacity remain insufficient. Beyond technical proficiency, communication competence between waxing specialists and clients has emerged as a crucial factor for achieving service excellence.
This study examined the structural relationships among waxing specialist–client communication, relationship quality, and brand equity, with the aim of identifying strategies to enhance service reuse intention and loyalty, strengthen brand equity, and promote sustainable growth within the waxing industry. A survey was conducted by a professional research agency from December 24 to 27, 2024, targeting female clients aged 20 to 59 who had experience using domestic waxing salons. Of 516 distributed questionnaires, 500 valid responses were analyzed after excluding 16 incomplete ones.
The main findings are as follows: First, communication between waxing specialists and clients had a significant positive effect on relationship quality. Second, such communication also had a significant influence on brand equity. Third, relationship quality was identified as a key factor influencing brand equity. Fourth, relationship quality was found to mediate the relationship between communication and brand equity.
These results indicate that communication between waxing specialists and clients extends beyond the simple exchange of procedural information. Clients often experience anxiety, fear of pain, and concerns about hygiene and safety during waxing services. Therefore, it is essential for specialists to accurately recognize clients’ emotional states, demonstrate empathy, and provide clear explanations and consultations. Such interactions foster trust, enhance relationship quality, and serve as crucial indicators of perceived service quality. Moreover, even high technical proficiency cannot guarantee satisfaction without effective communication, whereas strong communication skills can partly offset technical limitations. Thus, communication functions as a core determinant of brand value and customer loyalty rather than a supplementary component.
In conclusion, enhanced communication between waxing specialists and clients improves relationship quality and strengthens brand equity. Building continuous, positive client relationships increases loyalty, enhances brand value, reduces attrition, and supports stable market positioning. These findings suggest that communication-based relationship management can facilitate long-term client retention, differentiation, and competitiveness within the waxing service industry.
