This study aims to empirically examine the effects of problematic toenail care on changes in daily life among adult men and to verify the mediating role of psychological well-being in this relationship. The purpose of this research is to identify the impact of problematic toenail care on the physical and psychological well-being of men, and to propose directions for expanding the male customer base and developing differentiated service strategies in the beauty and healthcare industries. Specifically, the study focuses on analyzing the effects of problematic toenail care on daily life changes and revisit intention, as well as the mediating effect of psychological well-being between these two variables.
The data were collected from adult male consumers with experience in problematic toenail care in both the metropolitan (Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi) and non-metropolitan regions. From August 16 to September 21, 2025, a total of 37 days, a self-administered online survey was distributed via QR code to individuals who visited for toenail care services. A total of 344 valid responses were analyzed after excluding incomplete questionnaires. The study was conducted under the approval of the Institutional Review Board of Seokyeong University(SKUIRB-2025-01-025).
For data analysis, SPSS version 26.0 was used to perform frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and the Sobel test. The results are summarized as follows.
First, among the subfactors of lifestyle changes caused by problematic toenail care, physical and emotional changes had a significant positive effect on psychological well-being, whereas situational change did not show a significant effect.
Second, lifestyle changes resulting from problematic toenail care significantly influenced revisit intention, with physical, situational, and emotional changes affecting it in positive order of magnitude.
Third, psychological well-being had a significant positive effect on revisit intention, consistent with previous studies showing that the sense of happiness derived from the care process enhances the intention to revisit.
Fourth, the mediating effect of psychological well-being between lifestyle change and revisit intention was partially confirmed. Specifically, physical and emotional changes exhibited significant positive mediating effects on revisit intention, although the mediating effect of emotional change alone was not statistically significant.
In conclusion, physical and emotional changes resulting from problematic toenail care were found to enhance psychological well-being, and lifestyle changes had significant effects on both psychological well-being and revisit intention. Psychological well-being also played a mediating role in the relationship between lifestyle change and revisit intention. Therefore, to encourage continued revisits among adult male consumers seeking toenail care services, it is necessary to focus not only on tangible physical improvements but also on emotional factors that can be applied during the care process. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating emotional aspects into marketing strategies and service management practices.
