The globalization of K-beauty has drawn worldwide attention to Korean beauty techniques and culture, bringing changes to the professional pride and ethical consciousness of beauty practitioners in the field. As the industry’s global expansion accelerates, practitioners are required to respond to diverse client groups and new professional standards. This shift necessitates changes in perceptions of self-efficacy, work environment, and professional ethics, as well as the psychological adaptability of practitioners.
These changes further influence their professional attitudes and working conditions. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the interactions among these factors from the perspective of beauty practitioners. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of beauty practitioners’ perceptions of K-beauty globalization on their self-efficacy and to identify how self-efficacy affects their work environment and professional ethics. In addition, the study explores how changes in self-efficacy lead to shifts in professional attitudes and working conditions, thereby analyzing the relationship between the organizational work environment and professional ethics.
To conduct the analysis, a self-administered survey was distributed to beauty practitioners aged 20 and above who were working in the South Korean beauty industry. A total of 350 completed questionnaires were used for the final analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 with statistical techniques appropriate to the research questions, and the results are summarized as follows.
First, an analysis of general characteristics revealed that the majority of respondents were female, in their twenties, currently enrolled in or graduated from university, had more than ten years of work experience, held intern positions, and earned less than two million KRW per month. Additionally, 93.4% worked in the metropolitan area, and 88.3% reported having experience serving overseas clients, indicating that the globalization of K-beauty has become an important job requirement in the field.
Second, examination of differences in self-efficacy based on general characteristics showed significant variations across age, education level, work experience, income, job position, work region, and experience with overseas clients, confirming these variables as key factors influencing the formation of self-efficacy.
Third, analyses of the reliability and validity of the work environment and professional ethics variables showed high internal consistency and structural validity for both constructs. Four-factor structures were appropriately derived, demonstrating the stability and adequacy of the measurement tools.
Fourth, the analysis of the effects of self-efficacy on the work environment indicated that self-efficacy positively influenced various components of the work environment, including institutional and compensation systems, physical environment, global competency environment, and intra-organizational relationships and collaboration.
Fifth, the analysis of the effects of self-efficacy on professional ethics showed that the sub-factors of self-efficacy exerted significant positive effects on all components of professional ethics, including honesty and fairness, global ethical awareness, responsibility, and respect for clients.
Sixth, the influence of the work environment on professional ethics revealed that the overall quality of the work environment played a critical role in enhancing professional ethics. In particular, intra-organizational relationships and collaboration and the physical environment had strong effects on honesty and fairness, while the global competency environment exerted the greatest influence on global ethical awareness.
These findings indicate that the globalization of K-beauty positively affects the self-efficacy of beauty practitioners, which in turn is closely associated with improvements in their work environment and professional ethics. Self-efficacy was shown to play an important role not only as a psychological factor but also in organizational collaboration, ethical behavior, and job satisfaction. This study is expected to serve as foundational data for enhancing the development of the K-beauty industry, as well as the professionalism and ethical standards of beauty practitioners.
