K-POP퍼포먼스 창작과정에 관한 안무가 역할 탐색

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 K-POP 퍼포먼스 창작 과정에 관하여 안무가가 수행하는 역할을 분석함으로써, 안무가의 직무적 특성과 그들의 창작적 기여를 학문적으로 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 현직 K-POP 안무가 3인을 대상으로 심층 면담을 진행하였고, 질적 분석을 통해 창작과정, 전문성, 기여 인식, 한계, 향후 전망을 중심으로 범주화하였다.
연구 결과, K-POP 안무가는 안무 동작을 제공하는 기술자가 아니라, 음악의 정서와 리듬을 해석하여 이를 움직임으로 번역하는 예술적 해석자이자 디렉터로 인식되고 있었다. 이들은 음악 분석을 기반으로 무대 동선, 대형 구성, 시선·표정, 리허설 운영까지 관여하며 무대의 완성도를 조율하였다. 또한 아티스트의 신체적 특성과 개성을 반영하는 맞춤형 디렉팅 능력, 음악·트렌드·대중 감수성을 통합적으로 이해하는 복합적 전문성이 핵심 역량으로 나타났다.
안무가들은 자신의 작업이 K-POP 퍼포먼스의 확산과 소비 방식에 실질적으로 기여한다고 인식하였다. 특히 숏폼 콘텐츠와 포인트 안무는 대중의 참여를 유도하며, 퍼포먼스를‘재생산 가능한 콘텐츠’로 확장시키는 주요 요소로 작동하였다. 그러나 창작 과정에서는 기획사 요구와 예술적 의도 간의 충돌, 빠른 제작 일정, 반복되는 수정 요청 등으로 인한 어려움이 보고되었다.
참여자들은 향후 K-POP 안무가의 역할이 단순한 안무 제작을 넘어,기획·연출·콘텐츠 제작까지 확대될 것으로 전망하였으며, 안무가의 창작물이 예술적 결과물로 인정받기 위해서는 제도적 보호와 직무 표준화가 필요하다고 강조하였다.
본 연구는 K-POP 퍼포먼스의 창작 주체로서 안무가의 예술적 기여를 학문적으로 조명하고, 안무가의 직업적 위상과 창작 환경에 대한 논의의 기초를 제공한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to examine the roles performed by K-POP choreographers within the process of performance creation and, through this analysis, to academically explore their occupational characteristics and creative contributions. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with three active K-POP choreographers, and qualitative analysis was employed to categorize their experiences around creative processes, professional expertise, perceived contributions, limitations, and future prospects.
The findings reveal that K-POP choreographers are not merely technicians who provide movement sequences, but are recognized as artistic interpreters and directors who translate the emotions and rhythms of music into embodied expression. Based on musical analysis, they engage in stage blocking, formation design, gaze and facial direction, and rehearsal management, thereby coordinating the overall quality of the performance. Their core competencies include customized directing that responds to artists’ physical characteristics and individuality, as well as an integrated understanding of music, trends, and popular sensibilities.
Choreographers perceived their work as substantially contributing to the dissemination and modes of consumption of K-POP performances. In particular, short-form content and signature point choreography were identified as key elements that encourage public participation and expand performances into “reproducible content.” However, challenges were also reported, such as conflicts between company demands and artistic intent, accelerated production timelines, and frequent revision requests. Participants further anticipated that the role of K-POP choreographers will extend beyond choreography production to include planning, directing, and content creation, emphasizing the need for institutional support and job standardization for their creative output to be recognized as artistic work.
This study academically highlights the artistic contributions of choreographers as creative agents in K-POP performance production and provides a foundation for discussions on their professional status and creative environment.
