This study aims to explore new possibilities for three-dimensional form by integrating the creative reinterpretation of art mask objects with 3D computer graphics technology, moving beyond a focus on technical completeness alone. To this end, objects and backgrounds were produced as digital video works using Cinema 4D, and the completed videos were realized as installation-based artworks through projection mapping techniques. The works focus on visually examining the boundaries between technological civilization and humanity, as well as between nature and the artificial, grounded in cyberpunk and dystopian aesthetics.
The production process was conducted based on three primary criteria. First, the themes of each work were visualized through the use of objects. Second, materials appropriate to each theme were applied to enhance expressive qualities. Third, backgrounds capable of expanding spatial perception were constructed to strengthen visual effects. Based on these criteria, a total of seven works were produced.
Work 1 presents spatial interactions generated by reflection and repetition through the use of spherical metallic forms. Work 2 realizes a cyberpunk sense of space through the structure of a neon tunnel, while Work 3 visualizes dependency and rhythm in human relationships using a cyclical gear mechanism. Work 4 expresses the interaction between nature and artificiality by incorporating natural objects, and Work 5 reveals the flow of generation and disappearance through the application of digital dissolve effects. Work 6 visually suggests dimensional expansion through a mirrored reflection structure. Work 7 conveys the image of a cold, futuristic space by arranging objects in a regular pattern and applying metallic materials and blue-toned color schemes.
Through the production of these works, this study confirms that form-making methods based on 3D computer graphics effectively overcome physical constraints while enabling the precise realization of detailed structures and three-dimensionality. In particular, the interaction of materials, lighting, and color contributes to the formation of atmosphere and the reinforcement of meaning, functioning as a key factor in enhancing viewer immersion. Furthermore, modeling and rendering processes based on 3D software ensure production consistency and facilitate efficient revisions, thereby improving creative efficiency and suggesting potential expansion into educational and exhibition contexts through integration with various display devices.
While this study holds educational significance in presenting a form-making learning process suitable for beginners, it also has technical limitations in that the advanced functionalities of Cinema 4D were not fully utilized. To address these limitations, future research will aim to expand formal depth and immersive experience by incorporating AI, VR, and AR technologies.
