조선시대 전라도 수군진성 축성법 연구 = Construction Method of the Naval fortresses in Jeolla-do during the Joseon Dynasty

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 조선시대 전라도 지역의 수군진성의 축성법을 분석하여, 당시 전라도 수군진성의 축성법과 형태, 특징 등을 알아보고자 한다. 전라도는 해안선이 복잡하고 많은 섬들이 분포해 있어 자연적인 방어에 유리한 지형을 가지고 있다. 이러한 지리적 특성은 수군진성의 입지 선정에 중요한 요소로 작용하였으며, 각 진성의 위치는 적의 침입 경로를 차단하고 해상 교통을 보호하는 데 중점을 두었다. 전라도 지역 내 수군의 지휘체계는 전라수영에서 전라우수영과 전라좌수영으로 구분되며, 현재까지 발굴조사가 이루어져 축성법이 일부 확인된 전라 좌·우수영 관내 수군진성을 연구범위로 설정하였다. 본고의 진행은 다음과 같다. 전라수영에서 전라우수영과 전라좌수영으로 편재되는 과정과 수군진성 축성시기에 대해 문헌기록을 통해 먼저 알아보고, 수군진성의 설치 연대를 파악하여 시기별 축성연대를 나누어보고자 한다. 이후 수군진성 내 시·발굴조사가 이루어져 축성법이 확인된 전라좌·우수영 관내 위치한 수군진성에 대해 정리하고 전라도 내 수군진성의 축성법의 특징을 확인하고자 하였다. 축성법은 크게 기저부·외벽·내벽으로 나누어 특징을 정리하였으며, 전라도 수군진성의 경우 성종~중종대 짧은 시간에 축성되어 시기별, 지역별 축조방법 비교를 위해 조선 전반에 걸쳐 수군진성이 축조된 경상도 수군진성의 축성법과 비교하였다. 비교 결과, 외벽과 내벽의 경우 비슷한 양상이 확인되며, 기저부에서 차이점이 확인된다. 경상도 수군진성에서는 경사면에 축성할 시 사직선기단(斜直線基壇)에서 수평기단(水平基壇)으로 점차 변화되어 가지만 전라도 수군진성의 경우 기저부 내 경사면에서 사직선기단을 주로 사용하는 특징을 확인하였다. 이 연구는 조선시대 설치된 전라좌·우수영 내 수군진성의 축성법을 확인하고 전라좌·우수영 내 수군진성의 축성법을 경상좌·우수영 내 수군진성 및 전라도 연해읍성의 비교를 통해 전라도 수군진성 축성법의 특징을 확인하는 데 그 목적이 있다.

This study analyzes the construction methods of naval jinseong (fortresses) in the Jeolla-do region during the Joseon Dynasty, seeking to understand their construction methods, forms, and characteristics. Jeolla-do boasts a complex coastline and numerous islands, creating a terrain favorable for natural defense. These geographic characteristics played a crucial role in the location selection of naval jinseong (fortresses), with each fortress positioned to block enemy invasion routes and protect maritime traffic. The naval command structure within Jeolla-do was divided into Jeolla Suyeong (fortresses), Jeolla Usuyeong (fortresses), and Jeolla Jwasuyeong (fortresses). The scope of this study was to examine the naval jinseong (fortresses) within the Jeolla Jwa and Usuyeong (fortresses), where excavations have revealed some of the construction methods. The research proceeds as follows: We first examine the process of dividing Jeolla Suyeong into Jeolla Usuyeong (fortresses), Jeolla Jwasuyeong (fortresses), and the construction period of the naval jinseong (fortresses) through historical records. We then identify the construction dates of the naval jinseong (fortresses) and categorize them by period. Afterwards, a survey and excavation was conducted within the naval fortresses, and the construction methods were confirmed. The naval fortresses located within the jurisdiction of the Jeolla Left and Right Naval Camps were organized to identify the characteristics of the construction methods of the naval fortresses in Jeolla Province. The construction methods were largely divided into the base, outer wall, and inner wall, and the characteristics were organized. In the case of the naval fortresses in Jeolla Province, they were built in a short period of time from the reign of King Seongjong to the reign of King Jungjong, and to compare the construction methods by period and region, they were compared with the construction methods of the naval fortresses in Gyeongsang Province, which were built throughout the Joseon Dynasty. The comparison confirmed similar aspects in the outer and inner walls, but differences were identified in the base. In the case of the naval fortresses in Gyeongsang Province, when built on a slope, the straight-line foundation gradually changed to a horizontal foundation, but in the case of the naval fortresses in Jeolla Province, the straight-line foundation was mainly used within the base. The purpose of this study is to confirm the construction method of the naval fortresses in the Jeolla Left and Right Naval Camps established during the Joseon Dynasty and to compare the construction method of the naval fortresses in the Jeolla Left and Right Naval Camps with that of the naval fortresses in the Gyeongsang Left and Right Naval Camps and the coastal town fortresses in Jeolla Province to confirm the characteristics of the naval fortresses in Jeolla Province.
