A three-phase two-level voltage-source inverter is the most widely adopted power conversion topology in AC motor drive systems, where high control accuracy and stability are essential for reliable operation. However, practical inverters inherently exhibit nonlinear behaviors such as dead time, switching delays, semiconductor voltage drops, and parasitic capacitance effects, which distort the output voltage and generate torque ripple, thereby degrading overall drive system performance. Although various compensation methods have been proposed to mitigate inverter nonlinearity, their effectiveness deteriorates in low-speed and light-load regions due to insufficient back-electromotive force (EMF), making the output current more susceptible to distortion. Existing nonlinear compensation techniques often rely on feedback-based voltage synthesis, but under low-speed and light-load conditions, the feedback current becomes significantly distorted, causing the compensated voltage to be either overestimated or underestimated and ultimately worsening inverter nonlinearity. To address this limitation, this study proposes a new inverter voltage distortion compensation strategy that calculates the compensation voltage using reference currents instead of measured feedback currents, thereby improving robustness in low-speed and low-load conditions. In addition, this study investigates the influence of current sensor scale errors on the inverter nonlinearity compensation process, as phase current sensors generally exhibit different scale factors due to variations in ambient temperature, electronic component characteristics, and long-term drift. The study experimentally identifies how scale errors affect compensation performance and analyzes how phase-wise compensated scale factors influence the estimated parameters of nonlinear inverter models. The validity of the proposed method is verified through experiments using a 1-kW surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM), and the results demonstrate that the proposed approach improves compensation accuracy in low-speed and light-load conditions while maintaining consistent nonlinear compensation performance even in the presence of phase-dependent current sensor scale errors.
