Literature can itself be a teaching-learning sanction in language education, and the language of literature can be a meaningful material for language learning because it is most closely related to everyday language. In addition, because literary works contain cultural richness and variety, learners can understand the sociocultural context through literature.
Recently, the demand for female marriage immigrants is also changing while the demand for foreigners trying to learn Korean is increasing significantly. In addition to language and cultural adaptation problems due to the nature of female marriage immigrants, emotional and psychological problems are also a big problem. In a situation where psychological problems such as loneliness, isolation, and internal conflict are bound to increase as the period of stay increases, not only language and cultural education but also Korean language education that can heal them is urgently needed. Of course, literature education cannot help fundamental solutions at the individual level, but by appreciating literary works dealing with various human images and conflicts, it can be a way to solve psychological factors such as looking back on one's condition once and facing a problem situation.
This study aims to conduct research focusing on helping female marriage immigrants who live in Korea use literature to settle their lives in Korea and to adapt to Korean society and culture as well as language. In addition, female marriage immigrants feel the need to be able to live a human life while accepting and understanding a multicultural society by establishing themselves as valuable personalities at home and in society, and to proceed in a way that helps them establish themselves as members of Korean society.
In Chapter Ⅰ, the necessity of Korean literature education for female marriage immigrants and the purpose of the study are briefly mentioned. In addition, research on Korean literature education and previous studies on literature education for female marriage immigrants are examined, and the subject of the research and research method to be studied in this paper are presented.
The necessity of literature education in foreign language education was discussed in the theoretical background of Chapter Ⅱ. By examining the theories of second language acquisition, the role of literature in acquiring a second language is suggested through the fact that classes using literature induce interest of learners and provide meaningful language input. In addition, the concept of female marriage immigrants in the social and linguistic characteristics of female marriage immigrants is presented, and the current status and characteristics of female marriage immigrants were examined. In addition, the motivations for language learning and psychological factors in their social and linguistic characteristics are summarized. Finally, the criteria for selecting works for foreign learners when teaching Korean literature are presented.
In Chapter Ⅲ, the existing Korean language textbooks for female marriage immigrants are analyzed. The textbook contains the philosophy of the curriculum and specifically reflects the needs of learners. Therefore, the current Korean language textbooks for female marriage immigrants are analyzed by dividing them into the format and details of the textbook. In the format of the textbook, classifying it into goal, composition principle, and content system are categorized. In the detailed contents, furthermore, it was analyzed by dividing it into subject, function, culture, and literature. In some cases, literature was included in the category of "achievement culture" within culture, but this paper examines whether the literary domain separated from culture is presented in the textbook.
In Chapter Ⅳ, before applying the program to the class, a survey was conducted first, including basic learner information and the degree of interest in literature education, and the contents of the questionnaire1) are presented in detail in Chapter 4 and included in Appendix 1. Using the novels, Poor Man’s Wife by Eun Hee-kyung and Fire Salamander by Han Kang, the program was utilized by implementing the items to be taught in the language, culture, and personal growth model.
In Chapter Ⅴ, the literary education model prepared in this paper was applied to the actual class environment. Based on the basic information surveyed in the questionnaire, the study was conducted by analyzing the actual data of learners who presented a model for each language, culture, and personal growth. And the results discussed based on data analysis are represented.
Finally, Chapter Ⅵ summarizes the discussion of this paper and presents the limitations and research directions of the paper.
In the future, the researcher hopes that more active researches on Korean literature education will help female marriage immigrants adapt to Korean life and positively affect Korean culture understanding and emotional growth.
