합창 지휘자의 관점에서 보는 시니어 합창단의 운영 현황 및 지속 발전을 위한 방안 연구 : 농촌 지역 중심으로 = A Study on the Operational Status and Sustainable Development of Senior Chorus from the Chorus Conductor's Perspective (Focusing on Rural Areas)

This study aims to analyze the operational conditions of senior choirs in rural areas and to propose sustainable development strategies from the perspective of choral conductors. The findings indicate that senior choirs serve as essential cultural welfare resources that provide emotional stability, social connectedness, and improvements in physical and cognitive functions among older adults. Conductors were found to play a hybrid leadership role that extends beyond musical instruction to include administrative management, educational planning, emotional support, and community engagement—functions that are crucial for the sustained operation of choirs in rural contexts. Structural limitations such as insufficient cultural infrastructure, difficulties in member recruitment, and transportation challenges were identified as major obstacles affecting rural senior choirs. Notably, the absence of a systematic, senior-oriented music education program emerged as a significant constraint on musical development. Based on these findings, this study proposes several strategies: establishing senior-friendly music education systems, developing rural-specific choir operation models, enhancing governmental administrative and financial support, strengthening conductor professionalism, and expanding community-based cooperative networks. This research highlights the role of senior choirs as vital cultural welfare actors in rural communities and provides practical and policy-oriented insights for their sustainable development.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 서부 경남 거창군·산청군·하동군을 중심으로 농촌 지역 시니어 합창단의 운영 실태를 합창 지휘자의 관점에서 분석하고, 지속 가능한 발전 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 약 200명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하고, 지휘자 5명과 단장·단무장, 시니어 합창단 관련 지자체 담당 공무원을 대상으로 반구조화 면담을 수행하여 현장의 다양한 의견을 수집하였다. 연구 결과, 시니어 합창단은 노년층의 정서적 안정, 사회적 관계 형성, 신체·인지 기능 향상 등 다양한 긍정적 효과를 제공하는 핵심 문화복지 자원임이 확인되었다. 또한 지휘자는 음악 지도뿐 아니라 행정 조율, 정서적 지지, 지역 사회 협력 등을 포괄하는 예술 경영가적 역할을 수행하는 핵심 주체로 이러한 리더십은 합창단 운영의 지속 가능성을 결정짓는 중요한 요소로 나타났다. 농촌 지역의 경우 문화 인프라 부족, 단원 충원 어려움, 교통 문제 등 구조적 한계가 운영에 큰 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 무엇보다 시니어 특화 교육 프로그램의 부재가 합창 역량 향상을 저해하는 요인으로 확인되었다. 이에 본 연구는 시니어 친화형 음악 교육 체계 구축, 농촌형 합창단 운영 모델 개발, 지자체 행정·재정 지원 확대, 지휘자 전문성 강화, 지역 사회 협력 구조 강화 등을 중심으로 한 운영 활성화 방안을 제안한다. 본 연구는 시니어 합창단이 농촌 지역 문화 복지의 핵심적 역할을 수행함을 밝히고, 향후 실천 및 정책 개발 방향을 제시하는 데 의의를 갖는다.
