In this study, we aimed to increase the usability of land boundary setting using drone images by constructing a digital twin based on drone images and to suggest the possibility of applying it to cadastral surveying through experimental analysis and work on land boundary extraction in this virtual space. The research outcomes are as follows.
The experimental area for the study was selected as a graphical cadastrl area where various methods for setting ground boundaries exist. It was also chosen as an area with a high frequency of cadastral surveying and where drone flights are possible.
To implement a digital twin based on 3D modeling imagery, we first created 3D modeling imagery and a DEM of the experimental area through drone photography. Data processing was performed using DJI's Terra S/W. Cesium Ion was utilized to implement the digital twin, and the generated 3D modeling imagery and DEM data underwent respective 3D Tiles and Terrain data conversion. Afterwards, the converted data was used to implement a digital twin based on 3D modeling images using Node.js/express server and CesiumJS.
To analyze the accuracy of the fabricated 3D modeling images and digital twins, we calculated RMSE for 47 ground reference points and inspection points. As a result of the analysis, the 3D modeling images yielded an RMSE of X = ±0.015m, Y = ±0.019m, and a connection error of ±0.024m, indicating that the images are suitable for use in implementing a digital twin. The digital twin showed RMSE of X = ±0.022m, Y = ±0.017m, and connection error of ±0.028m. This was analyzed as being usable within the scope of results recognized as achievements under current law.
Using the digital twin implemented as above, we extracted the land boundary points for 156 points to set the land boundary. The extracted results and total station observation data analysis yielded an RMSE of X = ±0.090m, Y = ±0.134m, and a connection error of ±0.172m. These values fall within the permissible error range stipulated by law, proving that digital twins can be utilized for extracting land boundary conditions. However, it was found that there were limitations in extraction in areas where distortion occurred due to mesh reconstruction errors that occurred during the 3D Tiles conversion process and areas where bending or distortion occurred due to shading.
Based on experimental results, this study proposed a draft amendment to legislation enabling land boundary setting using digital twins, a method for acquiring location information of land boundary points using digital twins, and an extraction and setting method linking drones and digital twins.
If the method proposed in this study is applied to land boundary extraction, it is expected that preparing existing land status data and map data in a virtual space prior to fieldwork will reduce fieldwork time.
