Reimagining the Filmmaking Pipeline through Artificial Intelligence by Yosodiharyo Indah Sari Department of Visual Contents Graduate School Dongseo University Advisor: Prof. Jiani Zhou This thesis examines the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) within a small-scale filmmaking context (such as a student film and works created by amateur or independent creators) through a practice-based case study. Rather than treating AI as an autonomous creative agent or a replacement for human authorship, this research positions AI as a collaborative component embedded within a Human-in-the-Loop hybrid production pipeline. Live- action green screen footage is processed through AI-assisted post-production, and later combined with AI-generated visuals to extend narrative scope while maintaining human creative control. The study validates a practical workflow that enables a multi-timeline narrative using a single actor, addressing common financial and logistical constraints related to casting, location scouting, and lighting continuity. In addition to technical and narrative considerations, this research integrates ethical design principles through the IEEE 7000™ Value- Based Engineering framework, emphasizing how human contributions should remain central, as well as the importance of consent and transparency in AI- assisted scene construction. Based on these findings, the thesis proposes a creator-oriented model of AI literacy that prioritizes conceptual, technical, narrative, and ethical competencies over tool-specific proficiency. Overall, this study contributes a replicable and ethically grounded framework for AI-assisted filmmaking that expands creative possibilities for independent and student filmmakers under constrained production conditions.
