스포츠클럽 전문선수반 학생선수의 전인적 성장을 위한 부모교육 탐색 = Exploring Parent Education for the Holistic Development of Elite Student-Athletes in Sports Clubs

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 스포츠클럽 전문선수반 학생선수의 전인적 성장을 위한 부모교육을 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 구체적으로 전문선수반 학생선수 부모 자녀의 스포츠클럽 활동에 대한 이해 수준과 스포츠클럽 부모교육에 대한 인식 및 요구를 파악하고, 스포츠클럽 현장에서 적용 가능한 부모교육의 핵심 내용 요소와 운영 요소를 도출하는 것을 연구문제로 설정하였다. 연구목적 달성을 위해 연구방법은 설문조사, 심층면담, 전문가협의회를 병행한 혼합연구 방법을 적용하였다. 설문조사를 위해 전국 지정스포츠클럽을 모집단으로 하여 지정스포츠클럽 전문선수반 자녀를 둔 부모를 연구 대상으로 설정하여 설문조사에 참여한 부모 278명을 연구 대상으로 하였다. 심층면담에는 부모 5명, 전문가 6명을 연구 참여자로 하였으며 전문가협의회는 현장 전문가 8명을 연구 대상으로 하였다. 설문조사를 통해 수집된 자료는 빈도분석, 교차분석, Borda 분석을 통해 분석하였고, 심층면담과 전문가협의회를 통해 수집된 자료는 내용 분석을 실시하였다.
연구 결과, 전문선수반 자녀의 스포츠클럽 활동에 대한 부모의 이해는 전문선수 발달 경로에 대한 인식으로 수렴되는 부모들은 자녀의 스포츠클럽 전문선수반 활동을 단순한 취미나 여가 활동이 아닌, 전문선수로의 성장과 진로·진학을 고려한 전략적 선택으로 인식하고 있었으며, 이러한 인식은 자녀의 학령이 높아질수록 더욱 강화되는 양상을 나타냈다. 이는 스포츠클럽 전문선수반이 기존 학교운동부 중심의 선수 육성 체계를 보완하거나 일부 대체하는 새로운 선수 발달 경로로 기능하고 있음을 시사한다. 그러나 경기력 중심의 성과를 기대하는 부모 인식과 전인적 성장 및 학업 병행을 중시하는 행정 및 전문가 집단의 인식 사이에는 일정한 간극이 존재하는 것으로 확인되었다.
또한 자녀의 스포츠클럽 활동과 관련한 부모교육에 대한 인식은 주로 정보 제공 중심의 선택적 교육 수준에 머물러 있는 것으로 나타났다. 부모교육 참여 경험이 있는 부모들은 스포츠클럽 운영 구조, 진로·진학 정보, 선수 관리와 관련된 정보를 얻기 위해 교육에 참여하고 있었으나, 전반적인 참여율은 낮은 수준에 그쳤다. 특히 부모교육에 대한 인식과 요구는 부모 개인의 배경적 특성보다는 자녀의 학령기와 전문선수반 참여 단계와 보다 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 부모교육에 대한 요구는 진로 불안과 학업 및 운동 병행 과정에서 발생하는 구조적 어려움에서 비롯되고 있었으며, 이는 부모 개인의 역량 부족보다는 전문선수반 체제의 구조적 특성과 정보 제공의 한계에서 기인한 것으로 해석할 수 있다.
이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 전문선수반 부모교육의 핵심 내용 요소로 스포츠클럽 운영 구조 이해, 부모 역할 인식, 학업과 운동의 병행 관리, 진로 및 진로 경로 이해, 소통 역량 강화, 문제 상황 대응 역량 등을 도출하였으며, 부모교육의 운영 전략으로 온·오프라인 병행, 단계별·맞춤형 교육, 스포츠클럽–학교–교육청 간 협력 체계 구축의 필요성을 제시하였다. 나아가 부모교육을 자율적 선택형 프로그램이 아닌 구조적으로 연계된 필수 교육 체계로 제도화할 필요성을 강조하였다.
종합해 보면, 본 연구는 스포츠클럽 기반 전문선수반 학생선수의 전인적 성장을 위해 부모교육이 핵심적인 지원체계로 기능해야 함을 실증적으로 제시하였다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 이는 스포츠클럽 전문선수반 부모교육이 개별 스포츠클럽 차원의 선택적 프로그램을 넘어, 스포츠클럽 학생선수 육성 체제 전반의 안정성과 신뢰를 확보하기 위한 필수적 구성요소로 정착될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to explore parent education for the holistic development of student-athletes in elite divisions of sports clubs. Specifically, this study aimed to examine parents’ levels of understanding regarding their children’s participation in elite sports club programs, as well as parents’ perceptions of and demands for sports club–based parent education, and to identify the core content components and operational elements of parent education applicable to sports club settings. To achieve these research objectives, a mixed-methods research design was employed, incorporating surveys, in-depth interviews, and an expert panel.
For the survey, parents of student-athletes enrolled in elite divisions of designated sports clubs nationwide were selected as the study population, and data from 278 parents were analyzed. In-depth interviews were conducted with five parents and six experts, and the expert panel consisted of eight field specialists. Quantitative data collected through the survey were analyzed using frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, and Borda count analysis, while qualitative data obtained from the in-depth interviews and expert panel discussions were analyzed through content analysis.
The results indicated that parents’ understanding of their children’s participation in elite sports club programs converged toward perceptions of athlete development pathways. Parents tended to perceive participation in elite sports club programs not as simple leisure or recreational activities, but as strategic choices associated with professional athlete development and future career and educational pathways. This perception became stronger as their children advanced in school level, suggesting that elite divisions within sports clubs function as alternative or complementary athlete development pathways to the traditional school-based sports system. However, a gap was identified between parents’ performance-oriented expectations and the perspectives of administrators and experts, who emphasized holistic development and the balance between academic and athletic pursuits.
In addition, parents’ perceptions of parent education related to their children’s sports club participation remained largely at a selective, information-oriented level. Parents who had participated in parent education programs primarily sought information regarding sports club operational structures, career and educational pathways, and athlete management, yet overall participation rates were relatively low. Parents’ perceptions and demands for parent education were found to be more closely related to their children’s school level and stage of participation in elite divisions than to parents’ individual background characteristics. Parents’ demands for education stemmed mainly from career-related uncertainties and structural difficulties associated with balancing academic and athletic commitments, which were interpreted as arising from the structural characteristics of the elite sports club system and limitations in information provision rather than from parents’ individual competencies.
Based on these findings, this study identified key content components of parent education, including understanding sports club operational structures, awareness of parental roles, management of the balance between academics and sport, understanding of career and athlete development pathways, enhancement of communication competencies, and skills for responding to problematic situations. Furthermore, the study highlighted the need for operational strategies such as blended online and offline delivery, stage-based and customized education programs, and the establishment of cooperative systems among sports clubs, schools, and educational authorities. The study also emphasized the necessity of institutionalizing parent education as a mandatory, structurally linked system rather than as a voluntary, optional program.
In conclusion, this study is meaningful in that it empirically demonstrates the importance of parent education as a core support system for the holistic development of student-athletes in elite divisions of sports clubs. The findings suggest that parent education should move beyond being a selective program at the individual club level and become an essential component for ensuring the stability and credibility of the overall sports club–based student-athlete development system.
