수집된 자료는 SPSS와 AMOS(30.0 Ver.)

The purpose of this study was to empirically investigate the dual mediating effects of growth mindset and failure tolerance in the relationship between coach–athlete interaction and performance. To achieve this purpose, a survey was conducted with 330 Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes from university teams and professional teams nationwide. Among the collected questionnaires, 40 responses that contained insincere answers or missing items were excluded, and a total of 290 questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS and AMOS (Version 30.0) statistical programs, and exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, correlation analysis, measurement model verification, structural model verification, and mediation effect analysis were conducted. The following results were obtained.
First, coach–athlete interaction was found to have a positive effect on growth mindset and failure tolerance among Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes, while coach–athlete interaction did not have an effect on the performance.
Second, growth mindset of Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes was found to have a positive effect on failure tolerance but did not have an effect on the performance. Failure tolerance of Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes was found to have a positive effect on the performance.
Third, in the relationship between coach–athlete interaction and the performance among Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes, growth mindset did not demonstrate a mediating effect, whereas failure tolerance was found to play a significant mediating role.
Fourth, growth mindset and failure tolerance of Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes were found to have a dual mediating effect on the relationship between coach–athlete interaction and the performance.
Taken together, the results indicate that coach–athlete interaction among Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes does not exert a direct effect on the performance, but rather influences performance indirectly through growth mindset and failure tolerance. Specifically, positive interactions between coaches and athletes facilitate the development of a growth mindset, in which athletes perceive their abilities as improvable through effort and learning. Furthermore, such interactions strengthen failure tolerance by encouraging athletes to overcome setbacks and persist in the face of failure, which ultimately contributes to enhanced performance. In other words, coach–athlete interaction exerts a meaningful influence on the performance when it operates sequentially through athletes’ cognitive beliefs and their interpretation of failure experiences, rather than through a direct pathway. From this perspective, the manner in which coaches interact with athletes constitutes a key factor in the formation of athletes’ psychological resources.
Based on these results, it is expected that providing Taekwondo Kyorugi athletes with a positive psychological environment based on coach–athlete interaction may enhance growth mindset and failure tolerance, thereby establishing psychological mechanisms that can lead to performance improvement. In particular, this study is meaningful in that it empirically presented a psychological pathway in which coach–athlete interaction influences the performance not directly, but through the mediation of athletes’ cognitive beliefs and failure coping attitudes. These findings serve as foundational evidence for establishing coaching strategies that consider athletes’ psychological characteristics and for exploring directions for athlete-centered psychological and educational support in Taekwondo coaching settings.
