우리나라 창작동화에 나타난 공공도서관 이미지 분석 = An Analysis of Public Library Images in Korean Original Fairy Tales

This study indirectly investigated the image of public libraries internalized by
children's readers by analyzing how public libraries are depicted in original fairy
tales in order to grasp the image of public libraries inherent in Korean original
fairy tales.
To carry out the research, 13 original fairy tales in Korea set in public libraries
were selected and analyzed, and the "the Evaluation Index for Seoul Public Library
Service Performance Examination" was used as an analysis item.
First, ‘the space and convenience of library use’ part was examined by dividing
it into space accessibility, convenience of use environment, and environmental
comfort. Library accessibility was expressed positively, and the convenience and
environmental comfort of the use environment were generally positive, but it was
also confirmed that the fairy tale of the private small library background was
expressed negatively due to the responsibility of managing entity.
Second, the 'information acquisition and utilization' part was examined by
dividing it into diversity of library materials, update of library materials and
learning opportunities, timeliness and sufficiency of library materials. The use of
various materials or information services of the characters in the book provides
children's readers with an opportunity to indirectly learn the value of the library
and the information utilization system.
Third, the 'communication and policy reflection' section was examined by
dividing it into the librarian's service and the speed and accuracy of information
provision. In books, librarians' services were generally positive, and the provision of
information on library operation contributes to enhancing children's readers'
familiarity with the public library system and forming a positive perception.
Fourth, the 'enjoyment of culture and education' section was divided into
program satisfaction and participation opportunities, providing volunteer
opportunities. The appearance of characters participating in library programs conveys
to children's readers that the library is a cultural and educational space that
expresses imagination and creativity through books. Small libraries were more active
in providing volunteer opportunities than public libraries.
Fifth, the 'forming social relationships' part was examined by dividing it into
support for various community and formation of social interaction parts. The book
to be analyzed specifically depicts the sharing and communication of information by
various generations based on the library. In addition, the process of participating in
the generational exchange program of characters and the formation of human
relationships helps children's readers indirectly experience the importance of
solidarity, mutual understanding, and cooperation.
As a result of this study, 378 out of a total of 451 mentions of public libraries
were positive, confirming that the image of public libraries in original fairy tales
was generally positive. The most frequently mentioned item is 134 'forming social
relationships', showing that libraries are important as a place for exchange and
communication. Original fairy tales play an important role in conveying the
functions, values, and methods of use of public libraries and indirectly experiencing
community consciousness and social relations.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 우리나라 창작동화 속에 내재된 공공도서관의 이미지를 파악하기 위해, 창작동화 속에 공공도서관이 어떤 모습으로 그려지고 있는지를 분석함으로써, 궁극적으로 어린이 독자가 내면화하는 공공도서관에 대한 이미지를 간접적으로 알아보았다.
이를 위해 공공도서관과 작은도서관을 배경으로 하는 우리나라 창작동화 13권을선별하여 내용을 분석했으며, 분석 항목으로는 ‘서울시 공공도서관 서비스 성과 조사평가’ 지표를 활용하였다. 세부 분석 항목은 ‘공간 및 이용 편의성’, ‘정보 획득 및 활용’, ‘소통 및 정책 반영’, ‘문화 교육 향유’, ‘사회적 관계 형성’이며, 다섯 가지 분석 결과는 다음과 같이 나타났다.
첫째, ‘공간 및 이용 편의성’ 부문은 공간 접근성과 이용 환경 편의성, 환경 쾌적성부문으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 도서관 접근성은 분석 대상 도서 13권 중 12권이 긍정적으로 표현하여, 도서관이 일상생활에서 쉽게 이용할 수 있는 공간임을 나타냈다. 이용환경의 편의성과 환경 쾌적성은 대체로 긍정적이었으나, 특히 사립 작은도서관 배경의동화에서는 운영 주체의 책임으로 인해 부정적으로 표현된 경우도 확인되었다.
둘째, ‘정보 획득 활용’ 부문은 자료의 다양성, 자료의 최신성과 학습 기회, 자료 적시성 및 충분성 부문으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 분석 대상 도서 속 등장인물의 다양한자료 활용이나, 지역 서점 희망도서 바로 대출 서비스 등을 이용하는 모습은 어린이독자에게 도서관의 가치와 정보 활용 시스템을 간접적으로 학습하는 기회를 제공한다.
그러나 원하는 자료를 즉시 구하지 못하는 상황은 공공도서관 자료 이용의 현실적 제약에 대해 어린이 독자가 공감하고 이해하도록 돕는다.
셋째, ‘소통 및 정책 반영’ 부문은 사서의 서비스, 정보 제공의 신속성 및 정확성 부문으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 분석 대상 도서 13권에서 사서의 서비스는 대체로 긍정적이었으며, 사서의 친절한 태도는 어린이 독자에게 긍정적인 상호작용과 사회성 발달에 도움을 준다. 또한 도서관 운영 및 행사 등에 대한 정보 제공 모습은 어린이 독자의공공도서관 시스템 친숙도를 높이고 긍정적인 인식을 형성하는 데 기여한다.
넷째, ‘문화 교육 향유’ 부문은 프로그램 충족 및 참여기회, 봉사 기회 제공 부문으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 등장인물이 도서관 프로그램에 참여하는 모습은 어린이 독자에게 도서관이 책을 매개로 상상력과 창의력을 표현하는 문화 교육 공간임을 전달한다.
봉사 기회 제공은 공공도서관보다 작은도서관이 더 적극적이었으며, 등장인물의 다양한 봉사 참여는 어린이 독자가 타인과 협력하고 사회성을 기르는 데 도움을 준다.
다섯째, ‘사회적 관계 형성’ 부문은 다양한 커뮤니티 지원, 사회적 교류 형성 부문으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 분석 대상 도서에는 다양한 세대가 도서관을 기반으로 정보를공유하고 소통하며 관계를 맺는 모습이 구체적으로 묘사된다. 이는 도서관이 지역사회에서 사회적 관계를 형성하고 커뮤니티를 지원하는 중요한 플랫폼임을 알려준다. 또한등장인물의 세대 교류 프로그램 참여 및 인간관계 형성 과정은 어린이 독자가 연대와상호 이해 및 협력의 중요성을 간접적으로 경험하게 돕는다.
본 연구 결과, 총 451건의 공공도서관에 대한 언급 중 378건이 긍정적으로 나타나,창작동화 속 공공도서관에 대한 이미지는 전반적으로 긍정적임을 확인할 수 있었다. 가장 많이 언급된 항목은 134건의 ‘사회적 관계 형성’으로, 도서관이 교류와 소통의 장으로서 중요함을 보여준다. 특히, 동일 작가가 쓴 『유언장』, 『비밀』, 『미래』 세권에서 해당 항목의 언급 빈도가 다른 도서에 비해 두드러지게 나타났으며, 이는 작가개인의 도서관에 대한 인식과 철학이 창작 과정에 깊이 영향을 미쳤을 가능성을 짐작게 한다. 또한, 현직 사서가 쓴『붕붕』이 5개 항목을 가장 많이 언급하여, 사서의 경험이 도서관의 다층적 이미지를 효과적으로 전달 할 수 있음을 보여주었다.
결론적으로, 창작동화는 공공도서관의 기능과 가치, 이용 방법을 전달하고 공동체의식 및 사회적 관계 형성 등을 간접 경험하게 하는 중요한 매개체 역할을 하고 있다. 따라서 공공도서관의 긍정적 이미지 확산을 위해, 작가를 대상으로 한 공공도서관 경험 프로그램 및 정책적 지원이 필요하며, 공공도서관과 사서는 창작동화 속 긍정적인이미지를 유지하고 현실화하기 위한 노력을 병행해야 한다. 특히 부정적 언급이 높았던 이용 환경 편의성과 환경 쾌적성 부분에 현실 개선 노력이 병행될 필요가 있다.
