지면 추출에는 색상정보기반 지수(ExGR(Excess Green minus Red Index), GRVI(Green-Red Vegetation Index), VARI(Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index)), 지형 기하학적 특성을 활용한 Lasground(new) 알고리즘, 그리고 이들의 순차적 조합을 적용하여 총 7가지 경우를 비교, 분석하였다.

Earthwork volume estimation is a critical procedure performed during the design and early construction stages of civil engineering projects, requiring accurate calculations to ensure ground stability and reliable cost estimation. This process demands high-quality terrain data that precisely represent surface undulations; however, conventional surveying methods are often constrained by seasonal variations and environmental conditions, resulting in significant time and labor requirements. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of precise terrain modeling and earthwork volume estimation under vegetation-covered conditions by utilizing an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with both an RGB optical camera and a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor. For ground extraction, color-based vegetation indices—ExGR(Excess Green minus Red Index), GRVI (Green–Red Vegetation Index), and VARI(Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index)—a geometry-based algorithm, Lasground(new), and their sequential combinations were applied, resulting in a total of seven vegetation-removal scenarios for comparative analysis. The results showed that the combined application of color-based indices and Lasground (new) consistently outperformed single-method approaches for both sensing platforms. In particular, the combination of ExGR and Lasground (new) produced the most accurate digital elevation model (DEM) in the photogrammetric dataset, while achieving comparable accuracy in the LiDAR-based results. This combined approach also demonstrated high accuracy in earthwork volume estimation, with the LiDAR-based results exhibiting an error of approximately 0.3% relative to the reference volume. The photogrammetric results likewise showed a low error of 0.9%, indicating that UAV photogrammetry can serve as a practical and accurate alternative for earthwork volume estimation even under summer vegetation conditions.
