This study reveals that time has organized through colonial and heteronormative logics, recognizing only a narrowly defined subject as its rightful owner. Focusing on siren eun young jung’s A Performing by Flash, Afterimage, Velocity and Noise (2019), the study explores the potentiality of decolonial queer temporalities that depart from such temporal regimes. First, it examines the theoretical landscapes of queer temporality and decolonial temporality, and identifies the intersection between the two. It then applies this theoretical framework to context of Yeosong-Gukgeuk, which the work draws upon, in order to analyze how heteronormative and colonial temporalities have historically operated within the genre. Yeoseong-Gukgeuk emerged at a moment when tradition and modernity were in conflict, and its history is deeply entangled with the chronopoiltics. This study argues that jung’s work activates a queer imaginative geneology and alternative mode of historical writing by bringing the erased history of Yeoseong-Gukgeuk and the body of its second-generation male role performer Lee Deung Woo in contact with four contemporary queer performers. Finally it examines the decolonial queer temporalities that emerge in the process and opens up potentialities for imagining alternative temporalities.
