This study aims to propose a music lesson design that integrates storytelling techniques with artificial intelligence AI–based applications to foster students’ emotional empathy and creative musical expression. Grounded in the learner-centered and experience-oriented principles of the 2022 Revised Music Curriculum, the study presents a teaching–learning plan that integrates the domains of listening, performing, and creating. The instructional model was structured on Ellis and Brewster’s storytelling framework and Kim Young-min’s five-step learning model.
AI-based tools, namely ChatGPT and Suno, were incorporated to help students reconstruct their own narratives in musical form and produce creative outputs. The selected repertoire—Schubert’s “Der Lindenbaum” and Debussy’s “Children’s Corner”—was applied to design activities focusing on expressive singing and impressionistic creative interpretation. This study highlights the potential of combining storytelling’s narrativeengagement with AI’s creative support functions, suggesting a new pedagogical direction for music education. Through this approach, students can experience music not merely as knowledge to be learned but as an expressive medium through which personal emotions and experiences are articulated. Consequently, this study provides practical implications for storytelling- and AI-integrated music education and serves as a foundational resource for developing future lesson designs aligned with the evolving landscape of AI-based creative learning.
