This study aims to categorize and analyze errors in the use of nominalizing endings and adnominal endings in sentences produced by Vietnamese learners of Korean. Utilizing the National Institute of Korean Language's learner corpus, the research examines error patterns across beginner, intermediate, and advanced proficiency levels. The dataset consists of 773 erroneous segments extracted from a written corpus of Korean language learners built between May 2015 and December 2020. Errors are classified by type (omission, substitution, addition, and misformation) and by linguistic level (morphological, syntactic, and
semantic). The analysis revealed that the error rate for nominalizing endings was high, averaging 49%, with particularly high frequencies at the beginner
and intermediate levels. In contrast, while adnominal endings were used more frequently, their error rate was relatively lower at an average of
16%. Regarding error types, substitution accounted for the highest proportion for both types of endings. At the linguistic level, syntactic errors were overwhelmingly predominant. Furthermore, while overall errors decreased as proficiency levels increased, substitution errors between endings of the same category remained high. This suggests that learners face significant challenges in finely distinguishing the specific functions and meanings of various transformational endings. By utilizing a large-scale learner corpus, this study enhances the reliability and generalizability of its findings, providing more precise
results than previous research through detailed categorization. Furthermore, by identifying differences across proficiency levels, it offers insights into the stages of learners' linguistic development. These findings serve as foundational data for developing customized, level-specific teaching methods for Korean transformational endings. However, a limitation of this study is the lack of supplementary methods such as learner interviews or classroom experiments; future research should aim to incorporate these elements for a more comprehensive analysis.
