Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have recently been widely adopted for high-energy storage applications such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems. To meet market demands for energy density, fast charging capability, and long-term cycle life, the selection of cathode and anode materials has been extensively researched. In particular, silicon(Si)-based anodes have received significant attention due to their high theoretical capacity, leading to growing interest in anode structures that utilize conventional micron-sized silicon without sacrificing the electrochemical performance of LiBs. Herein, we report a novel highly conductive 3D scaffold for silicon anodes composed of an entangled network of eucalyptus pulp cellulose and single-walled carbon nanotube(SWCNT) nanocomposites via an eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing method. Stable dispersion of the aqueous Si/C-CNT anode slurry was achieved using a mechanical mixing process without additional binders or additives. Notably, the Si/C-CNT with a 50wt% silicon content demonstrated excellent compatibility with conventional coating processes and exhibited a high electrical conductivity of 29 S cm-1. Furthermore, we propose a method for locally rapid heating of the dried Si/C-CNT anode on a copper current collector by irradiating an IR laser(λ=1070㎚) in an air atmosphere. According to XRD, XPS, and TEM analysis, the laser treatment induced nano-welding of SWCNTs and thermal decomposition of cellulose within the silicon anode, this simultaneously increased the silicon content from 50wt% to 89.5%, decreased the sheet resistance from 9.6 to 7.2 Ω sq⁻¹, and increased the specific surface area from 16.9 to 77.1 m² g⁻¹. Structural analysis of the laser-treated anode confirmed the formation of Si-C and Si-O-C covalent bonds on the surface of silicon particles through the photothermal conversion effect. Regarding the electrochemical performance of LIBs, the laser-treated Si/C-CNT anode showed a 37% increase in capacity retention at 3.0 C-rate compared to the pristine Si/C-CNT anode and exhibited more than double the capacity retention after a 100-cycle test under a current density of 1.5 A g⁻¹. This study highlights the impact of laser treatment on the Si/C-CNT composite anode, specifically focusing on its microstructure as a novel conductive scaffold and its electrochemical behavior with LIBs during lithiation/delithiation cycles.
