This study examines whether perceived life changes among young adult carers in households with persons with disabilities can be classified into distinct types and whether levels of depression differ across these types. Using data from the 6th wave of the Panel Survey of the Life of Persons with Disabilities, the sample consisted of family caregivers aged 20–39 living in disabled households. Perceived life change was measured across eight domains: personality and values, lifestyle, health, education and academic life, employment and job seeking, marriage and romantic relationships, interpersonal relationships, and leisure and social activities. Latent Profile Analysis(LPA) was conducted to identify perception types, followed by multiple regression analyses to examine differences in depression. The results showed that perceived life changes were classified into three types: a positive perception type, a moderate perception type, and a negative perception type. Subjective health and caregiving burden were significant predictors of perception type membership. Higher subjective health and lower caregiving burden increased the likelihood of belonging to the moderate perception type (OR=2.724, p<.01; OR=0.338, p<.001) and the positive perception type (OR=6.084, p<.001; OR=0.428, p<.01), compared to the negative perception type. When comparing the moderate and positive perception types, only subjective health was statistically significant (OR = 2.233, p<.01). In addition, both the positive perception type (B=−.379, p<.001) and the moderate perception type (B=−.361, p<.001) reported lower levels of depression than the negative perception type. Based on these findings, this study highlights that perceived life changes among young adult carers can be meaningfully differentiated into distinct types, and that these perception types are significantly associated with depression. The study further discusses theoretical and policy implications, along with limitations and directions for future research.
