Longitudinal count data often exhibit an excess of zeros, a structure that standard Poisson models cannot adequately address. While various zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) models with random effects have been proposed, they only provide conditional mean effects and usually assume a homogeneous random effects structure. Recently, models providing population-average (marginal) effects via overall mean models have gained interest (Long et al., 2015). In this thesis, we review and compare three key ZIP models with random effects: the marginalized ZIP model (Long et al., 2015), the ZIP model with heterogeneous random effects (Zhu et al., 2017), and the overall marginalized model (Lee et al., 2025). The comparison examines how structural differences affect estimation performance, noting its deterioration when the model fails to reflect the underlying data structure. Applying the three models to the ACCESS dataset shows that model selection is substantially influenced by the real data's structural characteristics. Therefore, this study suggests that appropriate model selection must account for the underlying data structure when analyzing longitudinal zero-inflated count data.
