Schoenoplectiella juncoides (synonym: Scirpus juncoides) is a plant species native to East and Southeast Asia, traditionally used in herbal medicine for the treatment of digestive disorders and lipid-related blood conditions. Despite its long history of medicinal use, scientific research on the chemical constituents of S. juncoides and their pharmacological effects remains limited.
As part of our ongoing project focused on the discovery of bioactive and novel compounds from medicinal plants, this study describes the phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts of S. juncoides. Using a MS/MS-based GNPS approach combined with LC–MS analysis, we isolated and identified nine new isoprenylated stilbene derivatives (1–9), one previously reported stilbene-type metabolite with a newly established absolute configuration (10), and three known compounds (11–13). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated through comprehensive analysis of 1D and 2D NMR data, HR–ESIMS, specific rotation value and ECD calculations. All isolated compounds (1–13) were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity in BV2 microglial cells, and all stilbene-type derivatives exhibited inhibitory effects on LPS-induced nitrite production. These findings suggest that the isoprenylated stilbenoids isolated from S. juncoides are promising lead compounds for the development of novel anti-inflammatory agent.
