This thesis proposes an asymmetric resonant frequency design for an 11kW CLLC resonant converter used in bidirectional single-/three-phase on-board charger (OBC) systems and demonstrates its effectiveness. While conventional CLLC resonant converters use symmetric resonant frequencies for the primary and secondary sides, this approach results in excessively high operating frequencies when the input/output voltage ranges or voltage gain requirements differ between charging and discharging modes, thereby reducing system efficiency. To overcome this issue, the proposed method sets the secondary-side resonant frequency differently from the primary-side, reducing the required frequency range and enhancing bidirectional performance. Using the fundamental harmonic approximation (FHA), this study derives equivalent circuits and voltage gain equations for both modes and designs an 11 kW converter accordingly. Loss analysis is performed for one symmetric and four asymmetric cases, followed by simulation and experimental validation. The results show that although a slight efficiency drop appears in some charging conditions, the average efficiency remains nearly the same. But the asymmetric design consistently improves discharging efficiency, achieving a maximum gain of 0.81%p and an average improvement of 0.48%p.
